Digital Citizenship - Social Media

The internet is having an increasing influence on the social development of children and how they interact with each other. Social media, smart phones and other technologies provide children with wonderful opportunities to learn, be creative and socialise. However, just as with face-to-face interactions, sometimes bullying and harassment can occur or children can be exposed to inappropriate content when online.
Earlier in the term the department Cybersafety and Security Team came to talk with students in Years 4-6 about positive and responsible technology use.  Students were informed that many social media apps, such as Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, TikTok, Funimate and Youtube, have an age restriction of 13+. That is, children must be 13+ to subscribe or create an account to use these, as per the terms and conditions of these sites.

We are aware that there are students at school who have created accounts for some of these sites.  Even if parent permission has been given, it is against the terms and conditions for children under 13 to have accounts for these.
We would encourage you to talk with your child and, if they have created any accounts for apps like those below, help them to delete or de-activate their accounts.

If you have not already set up family sharing to review and approve apps that are downloaded to your child's device we recommend you do this.
If you need any assistance our eLearning team will be able to assist you.
