Each week we will provide families with an insight into our OSHC Service.  This week the focus is on sun safety.

At OSHC and school, we recognise the importance of promoting sun safety all year around.  In Australia, the UV index is particularly high, even during winter.  Therefore, we ensure our children are being sun smart daily by applying sunscreen and wearing their hat whilst participating in outdoor play.  To compliment this, we have been talking with our students about the effects of UV radiation and highlighting the fact that even though we cannot see it or feel it, the dangers of UV radiation is still prominent.  You will see all teachers and educators wearing a hat outside and using sunscreen so that we set the example we want for our children.

At OSHC, we provide a free SunSmart app which allows the children to check the daily UV rating. They can then record this on the Cancer Council SunSmart poster which is displayed in OSHC room. We like to use this as an opportunity for our older children to demonstrate peer-lead teaching by guiding and supporting our younger students.
