Principal's news

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues

We have just finished a tremendously busy week at school with so many extra activities being completed.  On top of some brilliant classroom learning, we managed to fit in:

  • Kokoda team training
  • AFL carnival
  • Book Fair
  • District cross-country
  • A visit from the Assistant Regional Director of Education and
  • Our Mother's Day stall

Inter-school sport reminders

The inter-school sport season starts next Tuesday. At Coomera Rivers, sport is an extra-curricular activity that we provide for students to enjoy. Our sporting ethos is - Fun - Fitness - Friendship.

Eligibility: To keep their place in the team, all players need to display high levels of behaviour at school. Any major or serious behaviour breach might see students dropped from the team. Players also need to represent our school with pride and promote our reputation while at sport. Poor behaviour at sporting venues might also see students dropped from the team for future rounds.

Team uniforms: Our school provides team uniforms for students who wish to participate in inter-school sport. We require a one-off refundable deposit each year PLUS a $5 hire fee for each sport. This is a very cost-effective way for children to be involved in sport on a regular basis.

We are a team first school, and all players have responsibilities as they represent the team, the school and their families.

  • All players must wear the complete team uniform - no exceptions.
  • All players must have and wear a school hat - no exceptions.
  • All players must have correct socks - no exceptions.
  • All players must wear their black sports shoes to and from the venue and change into football boots / netball shoes once they arrive or depart.

Contacting parents: We consider it to be a responsibility of the student (& family) to be ready for sport.  Unfortunately, there is no opportunity to contact families to bring a change of uniform to school at the last minute.  This means that any player who is not in correct uniform, will not be permitted to attend and parents will forfeit their payments for the day.  Please stress this with your children.

Parents and friends:  We encourage families to come along to watch the matches and cheer on our teams. We play inter-school sport for fun, fitness and friendship. We do not play to win - that is just a bonus.

Spirit and sportsmanship: There is no place for dissent towards the referees or umpires, teachers, team mates or the opposition. Any back chat, arguing or foul play from players or verbal dissent from parents will automatically result in the supervising teachers considering if the player will be removed for the remainder of the sports season. There is no additional warning or second chance.

I would like to wish our young players and coaches all the very best for a wonderful inter-school sports season.

District cross-country

While the full report of results and a larger photo gallery will be included in the Celebrations newsletter next Friday night, it would be remiss of me not to mention the outstanding achievements of our school cross-country team as they represented our school at the district carnival this week.  Their effort, conduct and pride in our school was clearly evident and I am sure our families, Mr Burrows and Miss Nina will attest to this.  Well done to all involved.
