Principal's news

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues

What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had at Coomera Rivers.  Our children just continue to impress me with their character and commitment.

Busking at school

Our music department is awesome!  Congratulations to our bands, choir and dance troupe on what were superb performances this week.  The large audiences were very impressed with the entertainment provided and the performers all beamed broadly.  Thank you sincerely to our music teachers, Mrs Ellison, Mrs Blythe and Mr Owens.  Our strings ensembles will perform in the coming weeks.

Representing our school

Representing something bigger than ourselves, like the school for instance, is not an entitlement.  It is an absolute privilege and honour, and I know when students are selected for Broadwater or South Coast teams, they carry a tremendous pride.  This pride needs to begin at a school level.  Players who choose to represent our school must meet our team and school requirements.

  1. Conduct:  Everyone who pulls on a Coomera Rivers shirt needs to epitomise our ethos of playing sport for Fun-Fitness-Friendship.  We value sportsmanship and never show dissent to referees, umpires, other teams or our own team mates.
  2. Uniform: We wear each and every part of the team uniform before, during and after matches and carnivals.
  3. Encouragement:  We encourage our friends, team mates and opponents.

These expectations are not a one-off achievement.  These are applied every time we represent - no exceptions.  Only players who meet these requirements remain in our teams.

Our next inter-school sport competitions are the OzTag competition and the Kokoda Challenge.

School OzTag competition

The identical team uniform requirements apply to this competition as they do to the Tuesday OzTag competition.

Jersey:  Team Jersey (School provided)

Shorts:  Team shorts (School provided)

Socks:  Regular school plain white socks that come above the ankles.  (Player owned)

Hat:  School hat or sports cap needs to be with the student at the venue (regardless of day/night nature of matches)   (Player owned)

Shoes: Black school joggers before, between and after matches.  Football boots or similar are changed into before the competition begins.  These can be worn for the duration of back-to-back matches.   (Player owned)

Slides & thongs:  No slides, thongs or bare feet are considered part of the uniform.  This may be accepted for weekend sport but not for representing our school.  These items cannot be worn before, during or after matches.

Kokoda Challenge (Trail running 18km race)

Jersey:  Team jersey - Runner owned

Shorts:  Black running shorts or bike pants - Runner owned

Shoes & socks:  Trail running shoes and socks - Runner owned

Hat:  School legionnaires hat (Provided)

Camelbak:  1.5 - 2L - Runner owned

Any player not wearing full and complete team uniform or does not meet the school player standards cannot represent our school.  This expectation is applied without exception.  I have spoken with all students and coaches about this and kindly ask parents to support and reinforce it as well.  Not meeting the requirements may result in being dropped from the team.

School sport last week

Congratulations to the students who represented our school with such pride last Tuesday.  I am just so proud of each of them and their team-first attitudes.  We have two more weeks of inter-school sports and I am sure that these will be just as fulfilling for the players and coaches.

Mother's Day in Prep

Prep celebrated all things MUM this morning.  And what a beautiful morning it was.  I am sure that the teachers will send home loads of photos via Seesaw but here is just a taste.  Thank you to our amazing staff for hosting this event.

Mother's Day picnic was a hit

Today's Mother's Day picnic in Year 1 was the most fulfilling event for me this week.  It was incredible to see all of the kids sharing books & snacks with their mums and Grandmas.  The love and care in the precinct was palpable.  Thank you to our teachers for hosting this lovely opportunity.

Let's Glow Crazy disco

What a wonderful evening it was tonight.  Thank you to our incredible P&C for hosting a superb disco and to DJ Brett for keeping the tunes coming.  Nearly 550 children and their families enjoyed this event.  Thank you also to the many staff (school and OSHC) who supported both discos.

School dental van

Many families will have seen the school dental van at school.  It will be parked in the Coomera Rivers staff car park until early August, so please make use of this awesome opportunity.  Costs for private dental care and procedures can be very expensive but this service is absolutely free.  Please contact the very friendly staff on the flier below for more information.

Happy Mother's Day to all of our sensational mums and grandmas this Sunday.  I hope that you are spoiled and have a wonderful day.

Kind regards

Vic
