Principal's news
Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Welcome back to Term 3! It was wonderful to see everyone back enjoying time learning and reconnecting with friends.
NAIDOC Week
This week at Coomera Rivers State School we celebrated NAIDOC Week. National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. As part of our school celebrations, Birin Cultural Group ran cultural activities for students in grades 2, 4 and 6 and also performed at our whole-school NAIDOC Ceremony. Some of our First Nations families engaged in a lovely breakfast catch-up with Miss Conroy, Miss Katie and Mrs Waide. Students were highly engaged enjoyed celebrating this beautiful culture.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Children who start building this habit in primary school learn that going to school on time and every day is important. Consistent attendance has a positive impact on academic progress and overall success.
Days away from school can quickly add up. On your child's recent report card, it is listed how many days they have had away and how many days have been unexplained.
How is your child attendance tracking?
There are many reasons that children are absent from school, from illness, to medical appointments, to attendance at religious or cultural events. While these situations are difficult to avoid or are planned ahead of time, there could be other circumstances making it challenging for your child to get to school regularly and on time. Please avoid keeping your child away from school for birthdays, shopping, visiting family and friends, if they sleep in, or minor personal care such as haircuts.
Your child’s attendance at school is important to us. We are here to help, our staff members are prepared to support you and your child, so please contact the school if you have concerns you'd like to discuss. We value your continued partnership in your child's social and academic success.
School dental van (Every day)
Many families will have seen the school dental van at school. It will be parked in the Coomera Rivers staff car park until early August, so please make use of this awesome opportunity. Costs for private dental care and procedures can be very expensive but this service is absolutely free. Please contact the very friendly staff on the flier for more information.
Kind regards
Sarah
