Celebration of Learning
On Thursday, 2M enjoyed a thrilling, jam packed day of exciting adventures at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. The fun began as we walked through the park and arrived just in time for the pelican and eel feeding show. We were met by a large group of slimy eels and big beaked birds awaiting their lunch. The fun continued as we were led to our next stop, the koala nursery. Students learnt about the native Australian marsupial and caught a glimpse of their baby joeys.
Our next stop was Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's free flight bird show – ‘WildSkies’, which introduced us to the majestic world of flight. We met many of Australia’s most beautiful species of birds including the largest bird of prey in Australia - the wedge-tailed eagle, as well as the Australian Pelican, colourful parrots and birds of prey. The children were in awe as these beautiful birds flew wild, skimming over our heads.
As we strolled through the sanctuary, the children pointed out the many koalas, Tasmanian devils, dingos, lizards, flying foxes, wombats and crocodiles. Finally, we reached the highly anticipated kangaroo enclosure. We walked through the red-dirt landscape to pat the lazy red kangaroos and then headed to the grassy fields to say hello to grey kangaroos, rock-dwelling brush- tailed rock-wallabies and inquisitive emus.
On the bus ride back to school, the students were still buzzing from excitement and ready to share their favourite moments of the day with their families. It was a brilliant day!
