Celebration of learning
In HASS this fortnight, Year Four students learnt about how temperature and rainfall impact vegetation and climate. They identified the temperature, vegetation and rainfall in different climate zones and displayed this information on a poster.
This week, students learnt about how vegetation and climate determine the types of living things in an area. Students created another poster that identified animals living in Egypt, South Africa or Brazil and explained why these animals live in these locations.
In Week Three, students worked in collaborative learning teams to explore the parts of a flower. We studied lilies that were cut through longways, so that they could observe a cross section of the flower. We discussed that pollination is when pollen is transferred from the male parts of the flower, the anther, to the female part of the flower, the stigma. Once this happens fertilisation occurs and a seed will grow. Finally, we will look at the life cycle of a tomato plant.
This week, the Year 4 participated in a hands-on experiment that highlighted the shared experiences of the beneficial relationship between flowers and bees. After, students created labelled illustrations to explain why and how bees pollinate flowers.
Caprice is an All Star
Caprice competed in the Queensland championships in September as part of her cheerleading team. Her team, the Gold Coast All Stars, won the competition. This means that Caprice and her teammates will be going to Melbourne in November (23-27) for the cheerleading nationals competition. This will be an exciting experience.
