Principal's news

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues

Summer is here and the weather this week, despite the storms, has been kind enough for us to complete the Colour Splatacular.  Thank you to our incredible P&C and staff for such a great event.

Facilities developments

Visitors to the school will have noticed some further upgrades to facilities.

  • The PLEDGE sticker at the main gate has been removed and a new non-slip version will soon be installed.
  • The outdoor court has been refurbished in a new colour.  Grass green, I am told, will produce less glare and not fade as much as the original blue colour.  I can already agree with the glare level.
  • The long jump pit is now ready and the cricket nets will receive their artificial grass surface and fencing in the coming days.
  • The sails to the hall courtyard will be installed in the coming fortnight.

Debating competition

Our house debating competition (Year 6) has been completed on Friday.  Contact sports should be banned for children under 16 was the topic and the debate between Siganto Tsunamis (Affirmative) and Colman Cyclones (Negative) was very close.  The quality of research, argument and rebuttal was a huge step up to that of the heats which was testament to the awesome preparation by coaches.  The winner was Colman Cyclones.

Awards assemblies

There will be three separate Awards Assemblies in the school hall this week.

  • Prep to Year 2:  Monday 4 December from 8:45am
  • Year 3 to 5:  Wednesday 6 December from 8:45am
  • Year 6 Graduation Assembly:  Thursday 7 December from 9:00am.

There will be set awards presented at these assemblies that have been determined by teachers using set criteria.  In the case of the Year 6 graduation awards, these criteria are extended to values where decisions are then based on merit (scores) or are determined by agreement by a panel of staff.

Swimming carnivals

The annual swimming fun days are being held in Week 10.  ALL SWIMMERS (students & staff) MUST WEAR A SWIM SHIRT at all times at the pool - no exceptions.

Unfortunately, the Department of Education no longer allows for supervised free swims (where student's heads can be underwater) so the carnival is limited to races and events.

  • Year 3 and 4 - Monday 4 December
  • Year 5 and 6 - Tuesday 5 December

The focus is on participation and fun.

Report Cards

Report cards will be emailed home to families on Thursday.  This is an automated bulk distribution process meaning that some computers might believe that the message is SPAM.  Please check your junk folders as well, then contact the school office if yours does not arrive.

Where reading report cards, please consider both the progress and effort equally.  We understand that not everyone can achieve a A progress grade but everyone can apply themselves to an A standard.  As teachers we place equal value on both.

Christmas edition

Next week's edition of the Celebrations Newsletter will be a bumper edition with a capture of all the awards and events that the week holds.  Be sure to check it out next Friday!

Have a lovely weekend
