Celebrating our learning
What a great start to Year 3: All students have done a wonderful job at settling into a new school year. We have been setting up our class expectations and the students have been practising using these expectations in learning, team work and moving around the school. Our games session with parents was a real success and students showed how well they have adopted our class expectations.

Year 4 have enjoyed their start to the school year: For the past two weeks Year 4 students have been learning the routines and expectations of their new classrooms and revising the school-wide expectations. They have learnt the routines for lining up, unpacking their belongings in the morning, for classroom chores, walking around the school, the whole class behaviour system and what to do if they are not ready learn. Calm down areas have been established in the classrooms and students have developed personalised plans that they can use to regulate their emotions, in order to be ready to learn again. Mindfulness and movement breaks were also practised.
The past two weeks have had a 'Know me as a learner’ focus. Students wrote letters to their teacher disclosing who their closest friends are, what they are excited and worried about this year, how they learn best, something they want to get better at and what they hope their teacher is like. This also helped the teachers know what the students are like as writers. We played fun ‘Getting to know you’ games. Additionally, we completed the Rapid Fire mental maths test, so the students could develop their maths learning goals for Term One. All classes started reading the first chapter of our English novel study - ‘Birrung the Secret Friend’ by Jackie French.
