Celebration of Learning

Year 3

Our Year 3 students recently ventured beyond the classroom walls for an unforgettable excursion to Paradise Country. Amidst the picturesque backdrop of Australian bushland, they delved into the wonders of native wildlife, from cuddly koalas to curious Tasmanian devils. With wide-eyed wonder, they learned about the fascinating lives of these creatures and even had the chance to pat gentle goats, kangaroos and sheep.

Year 4 students are participating in Close Reading sessions each week where they are introduced to an informative text. This term, students have been exposed to informative texts about the water cycle, the First Fleet and people of character such as Johnathan Thurston. The three sessions each week allow students to engage and make meaning of the text, explore vocabulary, annotate the text, and cohesively answer the comprehension questions. Choral reading, echo reading, and ‘jump in’ reading strategies are used to develop reading fluency and independent and shared confidence when reading an unfamiliar text. Shared and dialogic reading is an approach that the school implements to teach language comprehension that includes planned and explicit exploration of rich, varied texts. Students are working towards their Close Reading assessment which will summatively evaluate their knowledge and understanding of the Close Reading process.

Friday 24 May marked P&C Day and students across the school acknowledged our P&C with cards and gifts, for their amazing contribution to our school. Thank you for everything you do to help make Coomera Rivers an excellent school!
