Principal's news

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues

Welcome back to Term 3.  This term has 49 school days (with 44 to go), so I urge families to build a strong attendance ethic and set attendance goals or targets with their children.  If your child is sick, please let the school office know so that reasons for absence can be recorded.

Our headline event this term will be our musical, The Jungle Book.  The cast and crew have been rehearsing hard and the production will be one to remember.  The excitement is already building.

The best way to keep up with everything that is happening at school is to check the newsletter calendar regularly.

NIADOC celebrations at school

For the first time in a long time, NAIDOC Week fell inside the school term.  It usually falls while we are on school holidays.  So to celebrate this significant event, this week students learned about this year’s theme, ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.’

On Thursday, students and teachers attended a NAIDOC assembly where Biren Cultural Group performed traditional song and dance. A number of students were invited up onto the stage to dance with the performers, celebrating and appreciating First Nations culture.

Three lucky students also won a colouring book featuring artwork by a First Nations artist, after making a commitment to celebrate the culture and keep the fire burning. Congratulations to Harper, Bailey and Avarli.

Respectful behaviour at school

Our school promotes full inclusion of cultural differences and diversity - we celebrate peoples' differences.  Very recently we celebrated our Cultural Awareness Day and the school climate was both electric and exciting.

Our school imparts the values of a just, democratic and harmonious Australian society.   All members of the school community – staff, students and parents - have the right to a safe and productive teaching, learning and working environment, free from racism and discrimination.

I encourage all families to support this and teach and model appropriate behaviours with your children.  There is no place for racism, discrimination or social exclusion in our school and community.

Fairplay_2.png

The latest round of the FairPlay vouchers program is now open.

The FairPlay Vouchers program is designed to assist those families who can least afford - or may otherwise benefit - to join a sport or recreation club. Parents, carers or guardians can apply for a voucher valued up to $200 for their child, which can be used towards membership, registration or participation fees with registered activity providers. There is a limit of 1 voucher per child per financial year.

Please note:- Where a child is named on a valid Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, they can complete the normal application process. These children do not need to utilise one of our vouchers.

Coomera Rivers has been granted a small number of vouchers to provide to families. If you would like to obtain one of these for your child, please email Mrs Jenkins.

Vouchers will be issued in the order of requests received and should your request be successful, you will be advised via email. Please ensure that your child/s names are included in your email.

You can check the key dates information on the website to find out when vouchers must be presented to an activity provider.

Check if your child is eligible

  • You can apply if your child is a Queensland resident aged from 5 to 17 years (inclusive) at the time of application and you hold a current Medicare card for your child.

Make sure your activity is available

  • Search the list of activity providers to check that your chosen activity is listed and/or there is a registered provider near you.

Read the terms and conditions

  • Read and understand the FairPlay voucher application terms and conditions.

Should you have any queries regarding FairPlay Vouchers, or if you would like to check whether your sporting club is registered to accept these vouchers, please visit the FairPlay vouchers website.

2025 student leadership will be different

Student leadership will look different at Coomera Rivers from next year.  We will be looking to remove a majority of badged positions and replace them with opportunities for more students to learn about and practice what it takes to be a leader and serve others. Fortnightly lessons will be conducted for all interested students in Year 6 next year, to learn about the character virtues of service and leadership.

We will still use a merit based process to select two Heads of School in Term 4 this year and these students will serve as representatives of the student body.

Service to the school will be recognised across the year in various ways.  We will explain this at a later time.
