Celebrations of Learning

Year 3

Pacific Pen Pals

This term, 3J have formed an exciting connection with students from Apii Nikao School in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, through a wonderful pen pal program. The students have been developing their letter writing skills, sharing interesting details about themselves, and asking thoughtful questions to learn more about their new friends. The highlight came when they received letters back, answering their questions and revealing how much they have in common! The class is buzzing with excitement as they prepare to respond to the questions their pen pals asked, strengthening this special friendship across the Pacific.

Year 4

Year 4 students have been practising mindful movement this week as part of the Resilience Project. This activity involves trialling in a number of meditation techniques to encourage relaxation and a clear, ready to learn mindset. One of the meditation techniques classes participated in was yoga. Students thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of moving their bodies into different positions, practising their breathing and sharing a laugh or two.

Year 5 Skateboarding Superstar!

Louie has done it again! He recently won the Open Mens skateboarding competition at Bowl-A-Nana at Coffs Harbour. We wish him the best of luck at his next competition at Melbourne.

This Sunday 27 October between 12:15-12:50pm, Louie will be at the GC500 with other athletes from Boost mobile for signing. Boost Mobile are not only sponsors for the GC500 but they are one of Louie's sponsors. Say hi to Louie if you are heading there on Sunday :)

Year 6 Artist Visit

6C welcomed Gold Coast artist Larissa Warren. The students were very engaged, listening to Larissa explain how she used clay found from the slope behind the Year 6 building, to be a part of her current exhibition at HOTA.
The exhibition is called 'Here and Now: Gold Coast Triennial' (A contemporary art exhibition exploring the depth and dynamism of the Gold Coast’s creative community). It is on from Sat 28 Sep 2024 - Sun 16 Feb 2025, Gallery 1, 10am-4pm daily.
Coomera Rivers was one of eight locations that Larissa successfully collected clay from for the exhibition. We were the most Northern location that Larissa collected clay from (pink dot) so the 'Coomera Rivers' vase in the exhibition is pink and it is featured at the most northern end of the exhibit.
Larissa left some clay to experiment with vinegar, salt etc. so 6C can see how the clay process evolves over the next couple of weeks.

Year 6 Pilot Visit

6T had the privilege of hosting John, an experienced pilot with over 30 years of domestic and international flying experience. He shared his inspiring journey to becoming a pilot, along with notable accomplishments in his aviation career. John provided us with a unique opportunity to view images of flight paths, weather patterns displayed on radar, and various aircraft he has flown. It was fascinating to gain insights into aviation and explore aspects typically not accessible to us. The class was highly engaged, asking numerous questions, all of which John was eager to answer. The students thoroughly enjoyed his presentation and gained valuable knowledge about the aviation industry.
