Principal's news
Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
It's still spring but this week it felt very much like summer. The heat arrived in force and continued all week. These conditions are significant. Heat waves are the deadliest natural hazard we face and are responsible for over 100 deaths each year - so we take these situations very seriously.
We have managed well at school this week with the air-conditioning in classrooms keeping things comfortable and cool. Plenty to drinks and hats on have kept things safer for everyone. Should things become hotter, we are ready to minimise time outdoors. Schools do not close because of excessive heat. Click here to learn more about how to stay safe in a heat wave.
Early arrivals at school are concerning
School gates open at 7:45am each day for many of our before school activities. Students should never arrive before this time unless they are attending OSHC. We have seen students arriving before 7:00am some mornings. This is unsafe and we will contact families should this happen.
We provide supervision from 8:00am, provided that children are in the correct areas. The best time to arrive at school is between 8:15am - 8:25am so that class and lessons can begin at 8:30am.
State level success
Congratulations to our Coomera Rivers students who participated in Queensland Primary All Schools touch football competition last weekend. There were 291 team teams competing over the three day tournament.
Well done to the boys team who finished Top 8, and the Girls who won the tournament. These were huge achievements. Thank you to all parents and friends who supported our players and to Mr Liam, Ms Landers and Mr Burrows for leading and coaching. Top job!
