Principal's news
Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
We have continued to be lucky and dodge the storms this week. We have received some great rain but the hail and damaging winds have missed us. With the predicted drop in temperatures next week, we should see some lessening of storms.
Remembrance Day
We recognised Remembrance Day this week. We all stopped at 11:00am to honour our returned and fallen heroes. Thank you to the teachers for teaching our children about the significance of the day. The tradition continues at Coomera Rivers.
Global Innovators shine
Across the past fortnight, students in Year 5 and Year 6 have presented their HaSS projects at the annual Global Innovator Trade Show in the school hall. There was a range of solutions developed for community issues such as road kill, pollution, cost of living, reef protection and more. Seven group projects were selected to pitch their ideas to a panellist, which comprised of 2 members from Gold Coast City Council, a representative from Ozharvest and Tangalooma Eco-Marines. The winning group in Year 5 was Mischa and Lyra from 5P, who developed a drink bottle, with a working filter prototype that turned dirty water into clean water. All groups are to be celebrated for collaborating in a team and thinking like entrepreneurs to develop products and solutions to target our community.
Thank you to all of the wonderful teaching that has led to these opportunities for our children and thank you also to the families who were able to support the events during the school day.
Year 5 handball competition
Congratulations to Mathias (Champion) and Ricky (Sportsmanship award) on their success in this week's 4-square handball competition for Year 5s. We start the Year 6 competition next week.
Enjoy a great weekend
