Celebrations of Learning - Week 6

Year 3

This week in Science, 3A has been getting their hands dirty while learning about different types of soil! We explored sand, clay, and silt, discovering their unique textures and properties. As part of our investigation, we conducted an experiment by placing different soil samples in water to observe how they settled into distinct layers. It was fascinating to see how each component separated, helping us understand the differences between them. Science has never been so much fun!

Year 4

In year 4 we have been having so much fun with our science unit exploring different forces that are used within games. We have been making predictions about what will happen and discussing observations of the different forces being used when playing the games. During these lessons we have worked in small groups, sharing equipment and following directions to create experiments and complete tests. We have been learning to work as cogs in a team and ensure that everyone is participating and contributing to the group.

With the looming cyclone on its way we decided that we would do some research into cyclones, to find out the force that is behind the storm. We even wrote some creative narratives with a stormy theme and illustrations.

Year 5

Mrs Leick sure does love maths! She’s introduced us to lots of maths games including Target 100, Five Dice, Shoot Out, Buzz Off and Calculator Crash. These activities help us to recall our number facts, fine tune our addition skills, consolidate our knowledge of multiples and help us to understand place value. We like the opportunity to work in small groups or with a partner to improve our mathematical abilities. We’re looking forward to more fun maths.

Year 6

This week in Science, students in 6M have been planning and conducting an investigation to identify the best environment to store bread and minimise mould growth. To conduct this experiment, students identified the variables that affect the growth of mould and chose several locations around the room to store the bread. Students will now monitor changes over the upcoming weeks through photographing and recording. Students thoroughly enjoyed brainstorming the possible locations the bread could be stored in and the factors that will encourage or inhibit the growth of mould.
