Celebrations of Learning
Prep
At the end of last term, Prep S were nominated to participate in RSL Queensland’s Postcards of Honour initiative. The Postcards of Honour initiative is a creative ANZAC Day learning and commemoration activity for primary school students. Throughout Australia’s military history, postcards and letters have offered vital support to those on active duty. The activity allowed children to learn about the importance of ANZAC Day and write and decorate a postcard acknowledging a local veteran for their service. All Postcards of Honour were distributed by RSL Sub Branches to veterans across Queensland, building connections within communities and across generations. We completed a directed drawing of poppies, coloured them in and then applied water colour over the page. As you can see, the results are just amazing!
Year 1
Take a look at some of the wonderful things we did in Term 1 in 1S!
In English we listened to beautiful imaginative texts & learned how to present spoken retells and describe using adjectives. We explored letter sounds for reading and spelling and learned about sentence structure for independent writing. We are developing reading skills through pair/shared reading & independent reading.
In Mathematics we practised accurate counting, learned to represent numbers in lots of different ways and became Data Detectives, collecting, using and explaining data.
In Science we explored push & pull forces. We were very hands on in our learning about how forces are used to move things and learned how to explain like a scientist.
We also had lots of sporting and community events, like the Colour explosion, Cross country, the Easter assembly and more. I think the most fun was having our Family visit games afternoon.
We are looking forward to an even better Term 2!

Year 2
This term Year 2s are learning all about information reports by reading and writing texts linked to our HASS and Science units. To kick start our unit, 2B’s classroom transformed into a Book Cafe! Students sampled a range of informative and imaginative texts. It was wonderful to hear the kids talking about which books they wanted to finish reading and why. Since we are learning about a number of famous and significant places around Australia, we had to ’travel’ to our first destination. 2B boarded a flight on Coomera Rivers Airways. Miss Heath was our security officer and scanned boarding passes as students entered the plane. Miss Bray was the flight attendant and delivered a safety briefing before we took off. Our passengers enjoyed a juice and snack from the trolley and some in-flight entertainment on their iPads. Once we landed, we learned about the Parkes Radio Telescope in New South Wales. Did you know that the telescope received radio signals from the Moon during the Apollo 11 Moon Landing? Without the Parkes Telescope, we wouldn't have been able to watch the astronauts stepping on the Moon for the very first time.
