Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues

And finally.  The sun has been out and the showers have stayed away.  It has been a very wet five weeks and in fact, I believe that so far this year we have had more wet days on the Gold Coast than we have had sunny days.  It certainly feels this way.  The weather has forced us to close play areas on multiple days and the Interschool Sport season has been postponed.     

P&C Awards

The Annual Awards for the BEST P&Cs in Queensland are being announced on 7 June at the P&C Conference on the Gold Coast.  Our P&C is nominated and shortlisted in two categories including:

• The business of OSHC
• The business of Tuckshop (We call ours our cafe)

While they are nominated for these categories, to our school they are far more important than just OSHC and the cafe.  The executive are all volunteers who dedicate hours each week to ensuring that:

• Our children and families are supported each day with Breakfast Club, uniforms, and other requirements
• Necessary whole of school programs (like The Resilience Project) are offered to every child
• School activities like sports days are successful - and fun
• School facilities continue to be first class for our children
• FUN-draising activities like the Colour Explosion, Discos and the coming fete are all successful for our school community, and
• Their two businesses operate successfully.

 I hope that the judging panel agree with us - our P&C is definitely the BEST.

School Review is just around the corner

Every four years, every state school in Queensland undertakes a review of its progress.  Our review is being held from 10-12 June.  A review team from the Department will be at school on these days, speaking with staff, students and families to assess our next areas of focus.

Around the school this week

Damage to property

We invest a lot of money each year on our school facilities and resources.  These are for all students and our community to enjoy.  If students deliberately damage school property, their families will be informed and the cost of repair will be sent home.  Please discuss this with your children.

Schools Kokoda Challenge

You may have noticed the pink school shirts being worn at school this week.  These shirts are the team shirt for the Kokoda Challenge which is coming very soon.  Our teams train at school twice each week before school and then on Saturday mornings.  Tomorrow we are back to the Nerang State Forest to test our fitness on the trails and hills.  

The 18km challenge is in Brisbane on Saturday 7 June. Thank you to our coaches who have given up so much of their own time for our school teams to train and compete.

The pink shirts will help us stand out in the thousands of competitors who will be competing in the Kokoda event.
