Principal's news
Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Gosh it has been a wonderful week for our school and community.
Kokoda Challenge
After many months of training, puffing and aching afterwards, we stood in teams last Saturday, in the starting chute of the School's Kokoda Challenge. There was a lot of nervous energy while we waited for our phase to start.
Our four teams took to the challenge like young professionals and covered the brutally challenging 18km bush trail course in great time. For the record, 1378 people started the event and 1356 completed it. The fastest time was 2 hours 20 minutes. The slowest time in the event was 7 hours 28 minutes and the average team time was just on 4 hours 30 minutes. Each of our teams did amazingly well.

Thank you to the families and coaches (Ms Costello, Mrs Broy and Ms Parker) who supported the Kokoda campaign across so many months. I very much appreciate your dedication and commitment.
We will be presenting certificates on Monday at assembly. The students will also be able to wear their Kokoda shirt on Monday as well. Keep an eye out for the striking pink attire.

P&C Queensland annual awards
The P&C Queensland awards night was held last Saturday evening at The Star in Broadbeach. Our school was represented in two award categories and we were recognised as winners in both of them. This is the first time we have received this level of acknowledgement and I must say that Corina, Heather and Gemma and their staff are most deserving.
- First place - Corina Profke - The spirit of P&C (For service to a school P&C)
- First place - The business of OSHC (Best OSHC service operated by a P&C)

School review
We had the pleasure of hosting four Department officers this week who conducted a review of our school - our culture, climate, learning and teaching. They spoke with 70 students, 66 staff, 30 parents and 13 community members in developing their report for our school.
The affirmations of our school were many and I will share some of them once I receive the report early next term. They also provided five areas for us to develop across the next four years. These key recommendations will be central to our improvement planning processes and like the affirmations, I will share these with the community as well.
I am very proud of the achievements of our school and feel very satisfied with the many positive acknowledgements the staff received from the review team this week. Thank you to the many people who conferenced with our guests to provide their feedback and opinion.
School disco
Students and families alike enjoyed the Let's Glow Crazy disco tonight. DJ Brett kept the tunes pumping and Danni kept the Photobooth snapping while the staff helped with dancing and the sales counters. Both the glow products table and snack bar were very popular with the young disco-ers. From the buzz in the hall, it was clear a great night was had by all.
Thank you sincerely to our P&C for hosting this event. It is always great to bring our community together.

Special achievement
Congratulations to Amelia who played her 50th AFL match last weekend for the Ormeau Bulldogs. She ran through the special banner with her team and went on to play amazingly well. This her is 5th year in AFL and has been moved up from U11s to U13s due to her wonderful skills. Impressive! Mum and dad are very proud indeed.

Report card changes for Semester 1
Two big changes are coming
Change 1: The department has changed the look of report cards for this year. They will be more succinct and, for our school, will link directly with parent-teacher interviews.
Change 2: Our teachers will continue to focus on teaching and assessment through to the end of term. This will allow every student to demonstrate their learning and obtain the strongest possible report card grades. This means that report cards will now be sent home in Week 2 of next term. And parent-teacher interviews will be held on Monday of Week 3.
