Principal's news

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues

We are continuing to fill our school days with learning and opportunities for students.  Headlining Week 9 was the Arts Showcase and mySpeak competitions.  Our mySpeak finals are next week so I will provide results in the next issue - along with the round up of the Year 5 excursion and the sports fun days.  Be sure to wear your house colours proudly and cheer loudly as the kids participate for fun, fitness and friendship.

Safety message

Scooters and bikes inside the school grounds

Please remember the safety rule at school regarding bikes and scooters.  Bikes and scooters must be pushed when inside the school gates.  We ask riders to completely dismount and push their ride.  This applies to students and adults and all bikes and scooters.

Arts Showcase impresses

The Semester 1 Arts Showcase Concert was held last night.  Our young performers presented enthusiastically to an appreciative and proud audience.  Strings, concert bands, choirs and dance items filled the stage - and we had a snippet of the 2025 Wakakirri performance.

We also bid farewell to Miss Abul - our strings teacher.  She is moving to another school in Brisbane (nearer to where she lives) for Semester 2.  Replacing her is Hannah Baker who popped in to the school this week.

Thank you to Mrs Ellison, Mrs Enkelaar, Miss Abul and Mr Donnelly for their dedication to our young musicians across this semester.  The end of year concert will again be superb and you will see the growth the groups have made.  Thank you also to the many staff behind the scenes as well.  You are truly unsung heroes.

Parent-teacher interviews

I will open the parent-teacher interview schedule next Friday evening and will use the newsletter to provide all the necessary information for you to make your appointments.  Please keep an eye out for the codes next week.

Parent-teacher interviews are planned for Term 3 Week 3 - Monday 28 July.

Oval seating opening

The oval seating project will open to students next term.  It is hard to remember the ugly bank area that preceded it.  We still have work happening on the oval and are waiting to start the construction of the senior school Ninja Warrior course.

This facility was made possible by our local member, Michael Crandon MP and will become a magnificent facility for our community.

mySpeak competition

We will complete our annual mySpeak competition finals next week.  Our school has a long and proud history of strong public speaking and I am sure this will continue this year.  Thank you to everyone who has supported our children with their speeches.

NAIDOC Showcase

This week, the South East Region Department of Education proudly hosted its annual NAIDOC Showcase. State Schools and Early Childhood Centres across the region came together to celebrate and share the ways they are embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in their schools, classrooms, and curriculum.
With the support of Miss Shore and the Arts team, our students and teachers, we created a vibrant and meaningful display.  It featured work samples from Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, alongside stunning artworks that reflect developing cultural understanding and creativity.

Students explored this year’s NAIDOC theme, 'The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy', with each year level delving into a unique focus area, from colours and patterns in nature, to native animals, significant sites, language, and identity.

We’re so proud of what our students have created. Their artwork, and our showcase as a whole is a testament to their learning and respect for culture. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed. We look forward to announcing the NAIDOC art competition winners at assembly early in Term 3.  Thank you sincerely to Miss Shore for her leadership.

Solid Pathways progress

Congratulations to Frankie, Scarlett and Zairah who have achieved Knowledge Status in Symmetry and Patterns as part of their Term 2 Solid Pathways lessons. Their dedication and effort were recognised with a special badge and certificate. Well done on this fantastic achievement and thank you to Miss Katie for leading this program.
