Chinese Speaking competition
Well done to students who represented Coomera Rivers and participated in the Chinese Speaking competition last weekend (and thank you to Mrs Huang for leading this with students). Congratulations to Ashtiva who placed 4th in the competition.

Celebrations of Learning
Year 3
Celebrating birthdays are always fun, especially when you have an awesome Café that can organise super dupers for you. After each break the students in 3L are welcome to grab a cushion in order to enjoy relaxing and calming down to classical piano vibes. This allows them time to be prepared for learning. We also have a GEM conversation each morning and afternoon, which allows us to discuss kindness, empathy, our emotions and being mindful for eg Anger is a normal emotion everybody feels. What is something you can do to help yourself when you feel angry? We also celebrated “Bullying No Way” day by wearing purple and discussed being an upstander instead of a bystander.
Year 4
The year 4 students have been working hard these past few weeks on their persuasive writing skills. This week, we have focused on the important issue of koala endangerment. Students have investigated why koalas are now classified as endangered and considered the actions we can take to help protect them. In addition to their writing, they have been developing their speaking skills as they prepare to present their persuasive speeches to the class. The students have shown wonderful passion and commitment to this important cause, and we encourage you to take the time to discuss their learning with them. They will no doubt have plenty of knowledge and ideas to share about how we can all make a difference in saving the koalas.
Year 5
This week Year 5 teachers invited families to visit their classrooms. Students have been busy creating persuasive writing texts. Our Open Day provided an opportunity for kids to share their ideas and writing strategies. Children brainstormed facilities and programs that they’d like to see implemented at Coomera Rivers State School. They’ve been working hard to convince our school community. Their school proposals included having a badminton club, soccer teams, yoga classes, a gaming room, cooking classes, swimming lessons and a mindfulness club. Students took the time to teach family members the use of acronyms including SPA, TREIL and PAC to successfully record persuasive scripts. Let’s see which initiatives are triumphant!

Year 6
This term, Year 6 students are learning to write persuasive texts and transform them into vlogs. This week, they explored the concept of juxtaposition and how to use it effectively to enhance their vlogs. Students practised creating their own juxtaposition images based on current global issues aligned with the Global Goals. They thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get creative and develop powerful contrasting visuals.
