Qld Schools eSports League
This week saw the third and final round for 2019 of the Qld Schools Esports League, hosted by StHilda's School in Southport. 16 schools were represented on the day from Gold Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich and Sunshine Coast, with two teams from each school competing in two divisions. Again our team, who have only been practising since returning from holidays, wereamazing. The sportsmanship and enthusiasm our students showed was to be commended.
One highlight was meeting two local Queensland students who were the 2018 FAI World Drone Racing Champions. An incredible story of two students whose passion for technology was supported through various learning opportunities. They have toured all over the world flying drones that they have built in themselves. Esports and Drone flying are two of the fastest growing sports in the world and it is a very exciting space for Coomera Rivers to be entering.
The day was not only about game play and sportsmanship, there were many valuable lessons taught to our students about their role as digital leaders of tomorrow. The 4Rs of online behaviour fore-fronted the session.
4R's of Online Behaviour
- RESPECT - Everyone is allowed their opinion
- REASONING - I question things if my mind says no - don't
- RESILIENCE - I just try not to read into it too much
- RESPONSIBILITY - I am responsible for what I do online
The students were also reminded to SOAR with the BIRDS as they plan online games.
- Block
- Ignore
- Report
- Don't feed the trolls
- Share it with a responsible adult
Thank you to the sponsors of the day Nvoke Future Learning and St Hilda's for hosting such a successful event.
Exciting plans are unfolding for 2020 with many more schools coming on board, locally and interstate.
