Gratitude & Positivity
We know things are tough for everyone at the moment, so we decided to take the opportunity to focus on the positives in our lives. This week we asked the children what they are grateful for and we were truly surprised by the responses we received from children. We received responses such as “I am grateful that I have a decent house so when schools shut down I have lots of things I can do at home”, “I am grateful that we have hospitals so when I become sick I can go there to stay healthy and even for other people to stay safe” and “I am grateful for schools not being shut down”.
This week we have focused on keeping the environment positive as we know children are feeling the stress of recent events too. We’re making sure every day we talk to children about being positive and the happy things in their lives. The children have participated in a range of activities that have focused on postivity and gratitude. Some groups did activities which focused on telling their friends positive things whilst other groups wrote down the things that they think are positive in their lives at the moment.
The practice of gratitude can help us during the tougher times, turning our thoughts of despair into thoughts of happiness. When we work together and encourage each other to view our worst situations with a grateful eye, we become stronger, more resilient, healthier and happier people.
