Principal's news
Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Thank you to everyone who has responded so well following my email & Facebook messages earlier this week regarding adult access at school. I could see that we were becoming complacent with procedures. Complacency comes from, among other things, being comfortable, and while I want everyone to feel that way about coming to school, we must remain vigilant with our social behaviours and hygiene. The consequences could be tragic if all of us don't do this. In his concert video, Bruce Springsteen (Born to Run) states that 'Nobody wins unless everybody wins' and this could not be a better analogy for the covid situation.
I will not allow us to drop the ball at school around the strategies we have in place to promote excellent health and safety for everyone. We will continue to take advice from Queensland Health and respond where necessary. Our school strategies to maintain health and safety include:
- Day cleaning of facilities
- Regular cleaning of equipment
- Hygiene practices and supplies
- Restricted access for parents with gate passes / uniform shop passes
- Social distancing of adults
- Controlled staff and P&C meeting group sizes
- Controlled volunteer access
- Early departure options to reduce the size of the 2:30pm departure group
- Regular WHS meetings and inspections
Coronavirus testing: You will notice that I have not been informing families of instances where members of our community have undertaken covid testing. This is because the policy for passing this information on to families has changed. If your children are tested for Coronavirus, please inform the school and follow your doctor's advice on quarantine, and then pass on the test results to us. We will always maintain your family's privacy with care and compassion. I am only required to inform the department of any positive test returns should there ever be one.
Stay well, stay safe and stay vigilant.
Use the Kiss n Go to get gone sooner
The Kiss n Go can be a very efficient way to drop and collect students from school. However for this to be the case, all needs drivers to:
- Join the back of the traffic line and never push in - even if you are just using the car park area
- Keep moving forward to the top of the Kiss n Go lane. Stopping at the main gate keeps the line from moving smoothly.
Good at learning - Good at life
There have been some impressive activities and achievements at school this week.
Summer is published
The Mysterious, Magical and Mystical Forest
“Woohoo! I’m a published author! #Dream come true!” This was the comment on Seesaw made by the author herself! Summer is the first official Apple iBooks Author from Coomera Rivers!
When assessment has a purpose, this is the excitement you receive. Selecting a picture prompt from pobble365.com imagination was ignited and from there the drafting and writing flowed smoothly for this budding author, Summer.
An immense amount of effort went into the writing process but after some tight editing came the best part... PUBLISHING! A picture book? No. An iMovie? No. An animation? No! Summer outdid herself by choosing to type her narrative then illustrate the pictures both digitally as well as using watercolour painting. What she created was nothing short of a masterpiece and now an ACTUAL digital book YOU can download and read from the apple iBooks store!
As her teacher, I am so proud and rate it 10/10 so see for yourself and download it!

Year 6 students help in Prep
Year 6D visited Prep O this week and explained what the school rules were. They all chatted, read stories and spoke about different ways to problem solve. Well done Year 6.

Day 10 this week
Year 6 spend every tenth day at school this term investigating a range of interests and passions. From cooking, stand up comedy, various sports, leadership, teaching, photography, whacky science and dance are just some of the options available to explore. Great job teachers!

Have a lovely weekend
Kind regards
Vic
