Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Winter has arrived this week and the keeping warm was on our minds. The air-conditioners were keeping our classrooms comfortable but it felt a little fresh outside in the breeze. I love this photo of the students in 1N making sure that their reading lesson was warm and comfy.
A special visit
But the arrival of the cool weather didn't stop all of the wonderful things that were achieved this week. On Tuesday, we were asked to share our Deep Learning journey with six of the seven Assistant Regional Directors and another six school leaders of the Gold Coast. The morning started off with a presentation about our reasoning behind our vision to be Good at learning - Good at life and why we are so passionate about it. The rest of the time was spent visiting classrooms to see it all in action. Thank you to our wonderful staff and students for sharing their stories with our guests. The feedback and conversations that occurred after the visits were very rewarding.

Free dress day
While the results of the Wednesday evening were a little bluer than many had hoped, the That's my Team free dress day was a lot of fun. Well done Coomera Rivers on getting behind your teams.

mySpeak winners
We also conducted the mySpeak finals on Wednesday and the calibre of public speaing across our school continuies to impress. We literally had the judges Francesca and Rod from Coomera Toastmasters in stitches in some speeches and then in tears in others. The bravery and sill shown by our young speakers was impressive. It is surprising just how large the school stage is when you are standing there alone. And debating is just around the corner. The results are later in this issue.
Music and muffins concert
And if Wednesday wasn't already busy enough, we managed to squeeze in a music concert called Music and Muffins. We shared the concert with our families near and far via Facebook Live and the feedback from proud parents and grandparents was so heartwarming. Thank you to the students in our choirs, string ensembles and bands for their wonderful performances. For many of our young musicians, this was their first concert after just six months of learning. And congratulations to our music staff for their tuition and preparation. I am really proud of everyone involved.
Kind regards
Vic
Coomera Rivers mySpeak Finals
At Coomera Rivers you will hear teachers frequently talking about character and how we can help our students develop admirable character traits such as grit, tenacity, perseverance and resilience. If there was ever a display of admirable character by our students, it was during the Coomera Rivers mySpeak finals on Wednesday. Students overcame their own nerves to present in front of their peers. Some educated us about the lives of others, brought us to tears with their heartfelt dedications to family members, and some just downright entertained us with their wit. Helping adjudicate were Rod Dixon and Francesca Thorn from Toast Masters. They were once again very impressed with the calibre of students involved. Congratulations to all who the students involved and our winners.

School sport
Running Club
This year we will be celebrating the milestone achievements for our runners at Running Club. We will award each runner that reaches 50km, 100km and 200km with a wristband to acknowledge their effort.
We had a record broken this week... twice! On Tuesday, Scarlett (6A) broke our Running club record with 17 laps, but on Thursday it was broken again by Scarlett (again) and Amity! The girls were able to reach 21 laps! Fantastic effort girls, I'm sure that will be hard to beat.
Runners of the Week:
Week 6: Sammy and Tamika
Week 7: Scarlett
Week 8: Lucas and Elijah

Walk with us youth academy would like to invite your staff and families along to their youth program launch on Saturday June 19 at 10:00am. Walk With Us Youth Academy is a sister group of ‘Walk With Us’ directed at children and young adults. This space is dedicated to all children.
The youth academy currently has intakes for the July launch. The academy is looking for mentors and mentees to be involved. This includes monthly outings with activities such as random acts of kindness with Robina Town Centre, adopting a grandparent at the local nursing home and outings including Bounce and theme parks.
Their program is entirely different to any other program offered to children and young adults. Their strategy has a different focus for each activity and outing. We integrate essential life skills in a fun atmosphere away from the typical classroom. This engages children to be more interactive and hopefully take more away from our program for their future decisions.
By becoming a mentor you could be working one on one with a child or maybe a few children gravitate to you. It’s an ever changing landscape to adapt to the environment our children are in, another reason why our plan of action is so different.
Please email Walk with us for registration.
