Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
The COVID situation continues to be a positive one for Queensland following the latest transmissions in Brisbane and Cairns. Now we simply need to maintain our mitigation strategies, follow the health instructions and travel restrictions. Delta is getting closer to the Gold Coast so it will take effort from everyone to avoid situations like those experienced in the southern states. It was only seven weeks ago that Sydney recorded its first case of COVID in this wave, and now...
I really want to thank everyone in our community who has supported the school across the past six weeks. Restrictions are never comfortable or convenient, and it is great news to be told that they are easing for the immediate future.
Restriction changes start Monday
At 4:00pm today, the COVID-19 restrictions in the 11 LGAs were eased to Scenario 2 level. Click here for complete details.
This also means that restrictions and routines around the school change as well. From Monday:
- Student arrival
- The school gates will be open in the morning by 7:45am. Please do not send your children to school before 8:00am (or 7:45am on running club or band rehearsal mornings) as they are not supervised. No-one would appreciate staff not supervising at play times so I do not see how arriving before staff in the morning is any different. Supervision in the four waiting areas begins at 8:00am and school begins at 8:30am sharp.
- Student departure
- There is no early departure available and all students finish class at 2:30pm.
- Parents on site
- Parents, carers and visitors are now allowed back on school sites, with the requirement they adhere to the ongoing direction regarding the wearing of masks.
- Parents cannot enter classrooms due to capacity regulations (1 person per 4m2). Teachers will manage volunteer assistance for their class.
- Masks are required to be worn inside the school office.
- Masks may be removed outdoors, as long as adults can maintain the required 1.5m distance from other adults or children.
- Parents, carers and visitors are now allowed back on school sites, with the requirement they adhere to the ongoing direction regarding the wearing of masks.
- School activities
- We can return to regular school activities so long as we maintain the appropriate COVID regulations at that time and location. This means that from Monday, excursions and music and sport activities will resume before, during and after school.
- Be prepared
- The COVID situation - especially this delta strain - will see the resumption of restrictions in place almost immediately. Be ready should this happen.
Student free day
Please mark Friday 3 September on your calendar as a student free day. Students cannot attend school on this day.
Great achievements and work this week
Eisteddfod results
Congratulations to Ashtiva for earning a Highly Commended Award at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod for her solo performance in Year 1 Violin open age. She played Sandmachhen (The Sandman) to a solo panel of judges after the main event was suspended because of the recent lock down. Well done!
Learning in our Year 3 classes
Working on 3-D shapes in Maths and developing reading skills were in focus in 3GN, 3JN and 3C classes this week. Great job!

Delicious dumplings
Today Year 6 students had the chance to making dumplings with Ms Huang as part of their Day 10 activities. Every student made their own dumplings, cooked them, and then very much enjoyed eating them. Some students even decided to save some to take home to share with their family.

Kind regards and keep well
Vic
Dance
We are preparing a special performance for families (restrictions allowing) in week 10 (13-17 Sept) of this term, so if you are able to organise with work to pick up your children one afternoon in week 10, at 2:25pm there will be a surprise you won't want to miss! The whole school will be involved.
This week in our dance lessons, students have been giving peer feedback to each other. We gave Tickled Pink - something they are really good at and Green For Growth - something they can improve in preparation for their assessment next week.

Wakakirri
If you haven't seen the email from Mrs Blyth please check your junk folder. Also please hop on to your child's Seesaw and fill in the activity. Rehearsals can restart next Thursday 26 August from 2:30pm - 4:00pm.
Athletics
Sadly the Broadwater District Athletics Carnival was cancelled this week. We would like to acknowledge the performance of our athletics team, who trained (where possible) and who performed so well at our school athletics carnival, breaking many records. Hope to see some of these athletes at the Brisbane Olympics 2032!
NRL
Good luck to our Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 teams competing at the NRL Nines Gala Day next Tuesday 24 August at the Coomera Cutters.
AFL
The Auskick program was delayed due to the Covid restrictions. It should commence 26 August, Session 2 – 2nd Sep, Session 3 – 9th Sep , Session 4 – 16th Sep, School Holiday Break, Session 5 – 7th Oct and Session 6 – 14th Oct.
Coomera Cup
Last year we established a local rivalry with Coomera Springs State School where we played them in Rugby League and Touch Football, battling it out for the Coomera Cup. While it was a great day, Coomera Springs won both competitions. Our players have been striving to win back these cups.
This year we will be hosting the Coomera Cup battles for Rugby League and Touch Football here at Coomera Rivers on Tuesday 14 September. The same day, our Netball and Basketball teams will travel to Coomera Springs. I’m sure our students will play hard but fair and do our school proud (hopefully winning back the Coomera Cup)!

Masks have been the new craze at OSHC this week, so a group of children decided to make a mask shop. They began taking orders throughout Wednesday afternoon from their peers, asking specific questions to ensure the child was going to be happy with the final product. The group of boys set up shop in the foyer, making sure they were well equipped to produce the many orders they had received.
Each child had a role in making the mask; someone to draw the outline, someone to cut it out, and someone to make holes and tie it together. Each child had their own unique mask, tailored made to them and were so excited to show them off! The sign then prompted more mask making play the following day, bringing new designs and creators.
