Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
It has been another week of pleasing COVID results for Queensland at least, and the Premier has announced some further relaxation of the restrictions in place. At school though, not a lot has changed in this regard, except that we can now meet as a school staff which is quite exciting for me. Please note that there is no change to mask wearing requirements on school campus by adults or students in secondary school.
Click here for the latest COVID planning framework. We are currently in Scenario 2.
Student free day
Please mark Friday 3 September on your calendar as a student free day. Students cannot attend school on this day.
Changes to before school arrangements
The changes outlined below begin on Monday 6 September.
We are making some changes to the before school bell routines to provide teachers opportunities for greater flexibility in their own morning routines. The changes are:
From Monday 6 September:
Time | Activity |
8:00am | Supervision begins and all students need to either be waiting in the appropriate waiting area or involved in one of the before school activities. |
8:20am | A bell at this time will indicate that students should move to their classroom areas. Non-teaching staff will supervise students outside classrooms until the class doors open. |
8:30am | Classroom doors need to be open by this time for instruction to begin. Please note that teachers are not required to open their classroom before the 8:30am bell. Please contact me or your child's teacher if you have any concerns you would like to discuss. |
Our regular before school activities will continue as they currently are.
Solar power upgrade
Our solar power upgrade is progressing quickly and more than half of the solar panels have been installed. In total we will have 489 solar panels on five school buildings. This is really exciting as we will be able to demonstrate to our children, the importance of clean energy production for our planet.
The solar project has about another 4 weeks to go.

Have a great weekend and keep well
Kind regards
Vic
Positive growth mindset in Year 3
This week, 3GN experienced a Zoom video with Commonwealth Games 2018 athlete Murray Goodwin. Mr Goodwin is also a secondary school teacher at Varsity College and continues to train and coach in the Athletics (Track and Field) arena, as well as Secondary school sports teams and district teams.
The students in 3GN have been involved in a Positive Growth Mindset Deep Learning project this term and in preparation for their interview with Mr Goodwin today, they worked in teams to plan and write interview questions to ask him. The questions related to training goals (SMART goals), personal achievement, commitment to sport and training, nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.
Mrs Gillard was so impressed with the excellent focus and the mature questions the students asked as well as the way they conducted themselves during the Zoom interview. Mr Goodwin commented about what an excellent bunch of kids 3GN were! The sharing highlight was Murray’s experience in competing at the GC Commonwealth Games and his connection when meeting Usain Bolt (a career highlight)!
A really positive experience!

Young authors are always in our spotlight
Well done this week to students in 5SL on their wonderful Point of View writing.
And to these fantastic young writers in Prep. Look at how long their written pieces are.
Rugby League
On Tuesday Coomera Rivers sent three rugby league teams to an NRL Gala Day hosted by the Coomera Cutters. There were school teams from around the Gold Coast and Logan areas. Our teams were all very successful with our Year 5 and 6 teams remaining undefeated and winning all 10 matches and our year 4 team winning 3 out of their 4 matches.
Winning was not the only criteria for success, we also play for fun, fitness and friendship. We are very proud of not just their achievements but also the way they represented the school with pride and the excellent behaviour.
Thank you to our team of coaches and managers on the brilliant support for our children.
We now look forward to the annual Coomera Cup which is where our senior rugby league team take on Coomera Springs in a match here at school on Tuesday 14 September at 1:00pm.
