2022 is closing in quickly so it is time to begin your preparations.
What are your 2022 plans?
If you looking to relocate in 2022 and your children will not be returning to Coomera Rivers, please let our office staff know. This really assists us in creating our 2022 class structures.
Book lists for 2022
The book lists for next year are now ready. We no longer have a school sourced supplier. This decision was made at the P&C following considerable consultation and discussion. Instead, families can:
- Print the list
- Identify the items they need and what they already have from this year, then
- Head off to the back to school sales.
Click here to see the lists.

Slime Spectacular is NOW next Wednesday!
- Children need to start their day in their school uniform
- Light coloured old shorts and shirt
- Towel
- Garbage bag (REALLY IMPORTANT)
- We also suggest a spare pair of socks and undies to change back into after the fun.
- Students will be participating in the Slime Spectacular in bare feet
- We are unable to call home for forgotten Slime Spectacular gear so please make sure that you set yourself a reminder, put a note on the fridge - whatever it takes - but don’t forget to pack that Slime Spectacular gear.
- Students will NOT be permitted to participate in their school uniform.
- If you are attending the event as a spectator, you must sign in via the Check in QLD app.
- The approximate time of each year levels attendance at the event can be found below.
If you have not yet received communication from your teacher to confirm your child's participation at this event and believe that you should have, please email the P&C before 3:00pm Monday 8 December.
Thank you sincerely for your support of the Slime Spectacular

Regional chess tournament
On Thursday, students from Coomera Rivers, Labrador, Helensvale, Coomera Anglican College, AB Paterson College, Arundel and St Francis Xavier participated in a Gardiner Chess competition at our school. Each student played 7 games of chess, and the level of competition was very tough. Our students played hard, respectfully and improved with every game they played.
Two of our students managed to place in Top 3 of their year level. Well done to Alana (2W) and Joey (2H).
All of our students should be very proud of their efforts. Thank you to Mr Burrows for leading our chess team to this competition. Well done!

2B just love maths and skittles
2B students really enjoyed some yummy maths fun this week when they graphed data using Skittles.

Excellent writing
Well done to everyone in 1/2Mc this week on their awesome writing.
And...
Students in 2A have been learning how to write persuasively. Their latest persuasive writing was to Mr Meijboom to persuade him to allow them to be King or Queen of 2A and take over from Miss Mackay. Yes, our very own coup d'etat. They were very proud of their writing and they all had many great ideas for their takeover!

Our bee-lightful news
On Wednesday, bee keeper Peter, visited our school and helped us establish a hive of native Australian bees in our Indigenous Use garden.
He spoke with the school's Environmental Warriors and here are some things that we learned.
- These bees are native to Australia and don't sting, but they do bite!
- Unlike European Bees that just use wax to build their hives, these bees use resin as well
- They use resin to kill invaders by surrounding them in resin
- The bees can have more than one queen at a time
- They can travel up to 1 Km to find pollen
- And most importantly, honey should be produced early next year! (But I will need someone to send me some)
Now that's all that has been buzzing about the bees!
Thank you ver-bee much!
Micheal (5/6WC)

Service so young
Over the past year, Fifi has been supporting the Save the Children Australia organisation by creating succulent jars which are sold in their Wynnum Op-Shop. She has sourced the plants from her garden at home, and the jars are used from donations that the charity receives. Profits raised by the sale of Op Shop items go towards helping more than 17% of Australian children who are poverty stricken, as well as many other education and aid programs worldwide.
Fifi has also spent some time during the school holidays volunteering in the Op Shop - where she has helped with sorting donations, tidying the clothes on the shelves and racks, learned about customer service and of course, tried her best to convince customers to buy her succulents.
We are all very proud of her and the way that she selflessly gives her time to helping others. Fifi's empathy and desire to help others are simply amazing.
Coolphase for Clean Seas - Can you help?
We need your can and plastic bottles
Did you know that we collect cans and bottles to recycle? Please bring in any aluminium cans or plastic bottles from home. We will cash them in. We have raised enough money for our first project - a bee hive. We have purchased the hive and expect it to be installed in the coming weeks.
Please bring your lunch to school on Wednesdays in reusable containers instead of plastic wrappers.
Our very best classes
Week 4 - 4F (17 lunches)
Week 5 - 4B (11 lunches)
Week 6 - 3JN (13 lunches)
Week 7 - 5L (14 lunches)
Table Tennis
Last Friday, Coomera Rivers sent 5 teams of 2 players to the Gold Coast Table Tennis Schools competition. It was huge day of Table Tennis with each student playing for over 4 hours. It was so good to see how much our players improved at table tennis over the duration of the day.
Three of our teams managed to leave with some medals around their neck, but everyone who participated should be very proud of how the played.
Congratulations to the following students:
1st place: Amy and Sofia (4E)
2nd Place: Mikayla and Olivia (6WC)
3rd Place: Tumoana (5W) and Bodhi (5L)

Swimming Fun Days
A reminder that our Swimming Fun Days (House Carnival) aren't too far away. More details to come, but the dates to remember are:
- Monday December 6: Year 3 & 4
- Tuesday December 7: Year 5 & 6
Cooking Club has started up at OSHC over the last two weeks and it has been an absolute hit! Mrs Karen has been working hard with our OSHC children on Tuesday afternoons to create some delicious treats to enjoy. Each week, there will be a focus on different cooking/baking techniques, giving our children the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in these areas.
Due to such high demand for Cooking Club, as of next week we will be running two cooking club sessions during after school care, which will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We would love to hear your feedback and suggestions, please feel free to share your thoughts with us!
