Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Congratulations to everyone for what has been a wonderful school year. Our successes in the arts, on the sporting field, in the classroom and in public speaking have been extremely impressive once again. However, my most satisfying success this year is the empathy that our children are displaying for other people and the environment. I think the recent Global Innovators Trade Show & Pitch Event for Year 5 students was an incredible event that showcased student passions and design solutions for the global goals. This is some of the most powerful learning I have ever seen as an educator.
Good health and well-being for everyone
Vaccinations
By the time school resumes in 2022, all staff and volunteers at the school will need to be fully vaccinated. This will mean that our staff team from this year will look slightly different in 2022. And what makes the changes more complicated its late timing. I believe that we will have our staff team in place for next year but should this change, please know that we are responding as fast as possible.
Students do not need to be vaccinated.
All the information that I have received from the department indicates that no student is required to be vaccinated to attend their school. This applies to all students at primary and secondary schools, public or independent.
If this was to change, I would let families know immediately, but I am not at all anticipating this to ever happen.
Mrs Gatti says thank you
Thank you to the family who loaned Mrs Gatti an umbrella on Wednesday afternoon. She was VERY appreciative. She has left the umbrella in the office to give it back to you.
Student leaders
Than you sincerely to the 2021 student leaders, Maia, Si'u and Angel-Rose. They have led the student body with care and responsibility all year. And on Thursday, they handed their roles onto the 2022 student leaders.
Congratulations to:
- Head of School - Annabelle Nichol
- Head of School - Lucas Ikenasio
- Head of Student Council - Ashley Mears
Merry Christmas
I hope that everyone in our community is able to have a wonderful Christmas and new year period. I am excited about the 2022 school year ahead.
Kind regards
Vic

After our Year 6 students performed their ‘farewell song’, AOK, the whole school came out to acknowledge our graduates as they took their final walk through the school. It is hoped that when anyone hears this song, they’ll think of the 2021 graduating class. A very special mention must go to Wyatt Scrimgeour who lead the vocals for the song as the lyrics were slightly tweaked to better reflect the cohort.
We wish all our seniors the very best as they now move on to high school. We hope they remember Coomera Rivers fondly and we can’t wait to hear about their future successes.
Year 5 surf safety
What a wonderful way to spend the last day of school. Our Year 5 students learned about beach and surf safety while on excursion today to North Burleigh beach. These are really important skills and knowledge for all Gold Coast kids to have.

Swimming fun days
On Monday and Tuesday, we held our annual Swimming Fun Days for students in Years 3 - 6. It is always a fun, two days by the pool, watching the kids compete in some competitive races, some fun races and also, their free swim.
Thank you so much to all the staff members who supported over both days, as well as the parents and ex-students who came and helped out too. There were lots of smiles and ribbons right across the pool deck.

We have some amazing swimmers at Coomera Rivers, and this year, there was a whopping 19 records broken in the pool.

Oztag success
Noah & Seantayne played in a Queensland Super series tournament for Oztag on 3-5 December. They were both selected in the Queensland Boys 10/11 Years ALL STARS MERIT TEAM. Of 224 kids in Queensland, they are now the top 16 in the state for Oztag.
Well done boys. This is a very impressive achievement.

Our cheeky elf, Crystal, made an appearance on December 1, getting stuck in the window on the way in to the OSHC Room. Crystal left us a note to remind us to get this place looking festive, and reminding our children what needs to be done in order to keep Crystal around. The excitement from the children was incredible, with the after school care children rushing around to be the first to spot the elf. Our elf brought along a special book with them, which we read during reading time, explaining what Crystal was here for and how he reports back to Santa.
The next morning, we walked into OSHC, to find our cheeky elf Crystal had drawn red noses and stuck antlers on all of our staff photos! How do we know it was the elf you may ask? Well, we caught him red handed, above the staff photo's holding on to a red marker!
We can't wait to see what antics our elf will get up to leading up to Christmas!
