Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Sicknesses have devastated our school attendance across the past fortnight. There seems to be a number of viruses impacting on school staff and students. While I will always encourage students to be at school every day, I will always recommend that they stay home if they are unwell. These viruses will pass but I encourage everyone do everything they can to keep yourselves and others well.
Kokoda Challenge
Our 2023 Kokoda Challenge team competed in Brisbane last Saturday and completed the 18km course. all of our 16 competitors and four coaches will attest to how challenging the hills in the national park were - steep and long.
Our team results were amazing. There were 165 teams nominated for the event (including both high schools and primary schools from all over the south-east corner of Queensland) and all of our teams finished in the top 20 positions, with 3 teams in the Top 10.

Representing our school
Players and families alike will be clear on the requirements for representing our school.
- Appropriate and respectful conduct both at school and on & off the field or court at sport is vital for continued selection in our teams.
- Our team uniform is the only apparel that students can wear and it needs to be complete.
- We demonstrate our sporting ethos of Fun - Fitness - Friendship in every game we play and our respect extends to all players and referees - without exception.
I have been delighted with how the children have accepted these standards.
We have two sporting competitions coming soon - AFL and basketball. Good luck to all involved.

It is the player's responsibility to wear the correct team uniform. Any players who are not in correct and complete uniform on the day, will not be able to attend, and hire fees and transport fees will be forfeited.
Report cards are coming
Our teachers have been very busy putting the finishing touches to report cards this week. These will be prepared for email distribution to families in Week 10 (22 June) so please keep an eye on your email accounts on this day.
Principal's attendance breakfast (Week 10)
With the help of our wonderful staff, I will be preparing another pancake breakfast for students who have met the attendance standard this term. While we use 95% as our usual attendance target, I have been struck down with both the flu and COVID in the past fortnight and have missed six school days. I find it impossible to expect students to achieve more than me so the target percentage will be based on my attendance this term. This means that this term, the target attendance percentage is 87%. Students who have met or exceeded this target will receive a ticket the breakfast. Teachers will distribute these in Week 10.
School dental van
Many families will have seen the school dental van at school. It will be parked in the Coomera Rivers staff car park until early August, so please make use of this awesome opportunity. Costs for private dental care and procedures can be very expensive but this service is absolutely free. Please contact the very friendly staff on the flier for more information.
Kind regards
Vic

Celebration of learning
Last week, our enthusiastic Year 2 students embarked on an educational journey to the Beenleigh Historical Village and Museum. The students were captivated by the rich heritage and fascinating artifacts showcased at the museum. They had the opportunity to explore historical buildings and engage in interactive exhibits that brought history to life. The trip not only expanded their knowledge of the past but also sparked their curiosity and ignited a love for learning about their local history.

Celebration of learning
This week 3H used the classroom and playground to go on a hunt! Students walked around finding various maths questions to answer. The questions were on a variety of measurement topics, designed to challenge their knowledge before an assessment. Many students chose to complete with a partner or small groups which encouraged students to chat about their thoughts and ideas while travelling around.

Celebration of learning
One of our new activities in 4P is called Flashback Friday. Focusing on being cogs and not hogs or logs, students work in teams to answer questions related to the content we cover each week.
Last week's Quiz covered questions about Indigenous artwork symbols, polygons, informative text and properties of materials.
This is a fun, collaborative way to revise our content each week.
