Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
This week saw the once in a decade phenomenon, the super blue moon and the official end of winter. Our days have been superb in terms of perfect weather - albeit with a few storms in the late afternoons. Our children have been very busy since last celebrations newsletter and their achievements, both as a school and personally, have been quite extraordinary.

Supporting our community
The Year 5 students have recently had visits from charity organisations as part of their Global Goals unit. To set an example to students, many of our staff have wanted to show our support to local issues such as homelessness. We will be participating in the OrangeSky Sudsdy Challenge.
This challenge will take place on the last three days of school in Week 10 (September 13-15). Our Student Council is going to promote our fundraising efforts as well. We are asking families to make a $2 donation to our fundraising.
Click here to donate. Thank you for your support and look out for the ORANGE shirts in Week 10.

Father's Day Pirate Fun:
Arrgh! It was a great morning for some swashbuckling fun to celebrate Father's Day. Digging for buried treasure, walking the plank, and making pirate necessities- like parrots and hooks - was all to be found. We hope you had a m-aargh-vellous time!

Celebration of Learning
Over the past two weeks, we've delved into the fascinating world of mapping. In 3A and 3H, we embarked on an exciting treasure hunt adventure around our school grounds, honing our abilities in compass navigation, deciphering grid maps, and mastering directional language. Additionally, we engaged in a hands-on learning experience by constructing a grid map right within our classroom.

Celebration of Learning
Accessing the beautiful books in the iCentre and celebrating a love of reading is one of 4Ps favourite times of the week. Reading to someone, with someone or reading solo, students lose themselves in the magic of stories and information from our favourite books. Developing a love of characters and authors, students stop to savour the words and illustrations that are sometimes serious, sad or humorous.

Swimming achievements
Congratulations to Oliver on his recent swimming achievements at the Surfers Paradise Development swimming meet on 19 August. He earned a silver medal in freestyle and breastroke, and a bronze in backstroke.

Well done Year 5 students, for your enthusiasm and engagement, as you work towards creating an animals book in Chinese, in LOTE, with Mrs Huang.

Representing Australia
Lyla was recently selected to represent Australia at the World Skate Championships - Oceania/Pacific Cup 2023. Her specialty event was 'Minis Girls Solo Free Dance'. She competed on Saturday night with an amazing skate and earned fourth place against competitors from Australia, Brazil, Chinese Taipei, India, Japan, New Zealand and USA. WOW!

Cricket achievements
Taycen has been playing winter cricket with his club Coomera Hope Island Cricket Club and on Saturday he won his U12 Cricket grand final against Jimboomba.
He top scored in his team with 40 not out and took two wickets to help his team win the premiership. His performance also saw him awarded MVP in his team and he was selected as Championship Player for the competition.
Then he followed up last weekend when he competed in his Indoor Cricket final on Sunday. And it was yet another premiership trophy to add to his collection. These achievements also saw him selected in a under 12s Gold Coast Dolphins Representative team. Well done Taycen! Check out his batting style in the photo below.

AFL success
A big congratulations to Scarlet, Kaea and Connie who will be playing on the Main Oval at Southport Sharks this weekend in the Under 13 Girls AFL Grand Final v Palm Beach! They beat Burleigh in the semi last week in what was Connie's 50th game for Coomera. All 3 girls are playing up in age group with older girls and have gone from no team at the start of the season to the Grand Final.
The Gold Coast Bulletin will be covering the story at the weekend which is really exciting for all of them!

Horse Riding success
A big congratulations to Ruby, who rode like a boss last weekend in the 80cm and placed 5th out of 40 riders in the open class. She placed 4th in the Mini 6 bar, this was her 1st ever 6 bar so she was extremely excited. The 6 bar height got up to 1.15m! Ruby's determination and passion for wanting to do her best is amazing.
Ruby will be riding at the Gold Coast Show on Friday for the first two show jumping classes. We wish her all the best.

Altogether there were 240 students competing in 7 rounds of chess. It was great fun and students were well prepared after participating in their Chess Club lessons each Wednesday afternoon.

of the P&C Association
The next general meeting of the P&C Association will be held on Tuesday 18 February at 7:00pm, via TEAMS.
Please email the P&C at pandc@coomerariversss.eq.edu.au for a TEAMS link.
P&C meetings are a great way to keep up to date with what is going on around our school. The meetings also provide our families with an opportunity to have input and feedback on matters relating to school and community life. Meetings are open to all families and we encourage families to attend our on-line meeting and contribute to your school community which forms a vital part of your children's educational journey.
We look forward to seeing you on-line at our next meeting.
