Well done to our Prep and Year 1 students and teachers who all put on a marvellous show at our Easter Hat Parade today. There were many smiles, creative hats, and enthusiastic performers. The Easter Bunny even put in a special appearance to wish everyone a safe and happy Easter break.

Friday May 3
While Harmony Day traditionally falls on March 21 each year, our busy school calendar sometimes means missing out on the chance to fully celebrate our diverse cultures. Therefore, we're excited to announce our very own celebration of cultural diversity here at Coomera Rivers, scheduled for Friday 3 May (Term 2 Week 3).
Just like in previous Harmony Day festivities, we're encouraging all students and staff to don their cultural, traditional, or national attire, showcase national colours, or proudly represent their favourite national sports teams. Let's come together to honour the rich tapestry of backgrounds that make our school community so vibrant and unique!
Additionally, we warmly invite parents to join in the celebration by sharing aspects of their culture. Whether it's through dressing up, reading a book in a different language, or visiting the school to speak about their heritage, we believe that involving parents will enrich the experience for everyone involved.
For parents interested in participating or sharing their ideas, we've created a survey to gather feedback and suggestions. You can access the survey here.
Let's make this day a true reflection of the wonderful diversity that defines Coomera Rivers.
Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
It has been a short, wet and very busy final week at school for Term 1.
Parent teacher interviews
Thank you to the parents who used the opportunity to meet with their child's teacher this week. It was very pleasing to see the depth of conversations across the room. Thank you to our teachers who invested heavily in preparing for the meetings. Well done. Extra thanks to the staff who ran the reading sessions for parents as well.

Easter hat parade
I was thrilled to watch the annual Easter hat parade and concert this week. It is always a highlight to see the faces in the audience as they meet the smiles of those on stage. There is obvious joy in the room. Thank you to the staff who supported this event again this year - especially the chook.

Year 5 surf safety
Learning about how to enjoy our beaches and surf safely was the focus of the day for Year 5 classes. The weather was dreadful but the learning was essential. And fun!
Year 6 day camp
And late last week, Year 6 enjoyed the day camp activities. Again, the weather - and especially the wind - was very challenging, but the students were not at all fazed.
Term 1 has drawn to an end and I sincerely hope that you are pleased with the opportunities and progress shown for your children across the past 10 weeks. It is now time to enjoy Easter vacation with family and friends. I look forward to seeing everyone again when we resume on Monday 15 April.
Happy Easter.
Vic
What a fantastic way to end the term. Well done to these students on a very successful fortnight at school.

Celebrating Year 3
In Year 3 we have been busy exploring angles in our environment. Once you start looking it does not take long to realise that angles are everywhere!
Equipped with our iPads we took photos of various angles, both inside the classroom and out. Upon returning to the classroom, we grouped our photos into the following categories: right angles, angles smaller than a right angle and angles larger than a right angle. Who would of thought that Maths could be so much fun!

Celebrating Year 4
Year 4 students have been busy across the term learning about forces in science lessons. This week students demonstrated their learning in a culminating Cardboard Arcade Day.

Celebrating Year 5
Year 5 students headed to North Burleigh to learn all about Surf Safety with surf lifesavers. Keeping safe when swimming at the beach is such an important life skill for our students.

Celebrating Year 6
Year 6 Day camp success!
Year 6 students enjoyed 2 great days at Runaway Bay Sport & Leadership Excellence Centre. Students enjoyed many activities over the 2 days including: stand-up paddle boarding, beach games, archery, survivor, amazing race, laser tag, outdoor team challenge and initiative games.
Our Year 6 students needed to work as a team and display persisitence and resilience as they put themselves out of their comfort zone, well done to you all! Thank you to the teachers for supporting our students over these days!

Pimpama State Secondary College Days of Excellence
Selected Year 6 students enjoyed 2 days at Pimpama State Secondary College for their Days of Excellence progam. The 3 programs that were offered included:
The ACE Project - an innovative ‘think-tank’ business enterprise experience.
The REACH program - a short extension program that is engaging, accessible and entertaining aimed at students who have a passion for Performing Arts.
The STEM Olympiad - a rigorous academic program that concentrates on Mathematics, Science and the design process.

Over the past 10 weeks, students in the senior school have been receiving raffle tickets from their teachers, which we call Rivers Rewards, when they display exceptional behaviour. This week we drew the lucky prize winners.

Wreath Bearer nominations junior ANZAC service
We are currently making preparations for our 2024 school ANZAC services. For senior classes we ask the class student councillors to lay the wreath at the service on behalf of their class. In the junior school we do not have class student councillors, and therefore need to select students. If you would like your child to be considered to be a wreath bearer for the school's junior ANZAC service on the Wednesday 24 April, please click on the link provided below.
From the nominations, one student per class will be selected by ballot. Parents may attend the service. This survey nomination form will close Monday April 15. Families will be informed of their child's selection Week 1 Term 2.
