Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Cultural Unity Day 2024
I was delighetd to celebrate our first ever Cultural Unity Day today at school. Our busy calendar made it impossible to celebrate Harmony Day this year so we planned another opprtunity. The children were abuzz with excitement all day. The teachers did an amazing job of promoting the event and teaching our children about the importance of Celebrating People's Differences at our school and in our community. Thank you to each of them for their contributions.
I also extend my sincere appreciation to the parents who made prepared national dress and creative ideas. It really makes a difference when we celebrate and share together.

After school story time is at Coomera Rivers
Are you looking for a fun and engaging activity for your child after school? Then look no further! We are excited to announce that our school library will now be open every Tuesday - Friday from 2:30pm to 3:00pm for After school story time.
Parents, carers and children of all ages are welcome to attend and immerse themselves in the magical world of books.
Story time sessions are not only a great way to spark your child's imagination and love for reading, but also provide valuable opportunities for social interaction and community building. Plus, it's the perfect way to unwind and relax after a busy day at school while the traffic rush passes.
Don't miss out on the fun! Join us for After-School Story time in the library. We can't wait to see you there!

Happy Reading!
Inter-school sport resumes
Our sports program resumes next week for players in our school teams. We will be competing (think Fun - Fitness - Friendship) against students from Pimpama Junior, Pimpama State, Gainsborough, Coomera, Coomera Springs and Picnic Creek schools.
It is a requirement at our school that all players attend and participate in the complete and correct uniform for their sport. We have explained this to players and provided families with the necessary items. Correct footwear, socks, hats and school tracksuits (if it is cool) are essential. Students in incorrect uniform will not be able to attend.
Thank you to the many coaches who continue to contribute hours of training and preparation for our players.
Parents are very welcome to attend and cheer our teams, but please remember that this is a school event. Unfortunately, any inappropriate parent or family behaviour will see their children removed from teams for the remainder of the sports season.
Coffee van sales are booming
The coffee van at school is doing a roaring morning trade, so much so that children are missing the start of the school day. As a result, we have needed to restrict student access to the van to include adults only. Parents are still welcome to purchase for their children but children are not allowed to buy from the van unless their parent is with them.
Brilliant young buskers
Thank you to the talented musicians who entertained an appreciative audience prior to the close of school each afternoon this week. I was delighted with the talent on display and could see the enjoyment and sense of achievement on the faces of the students. Well done to our teachers on their terrific preparation.

District cross-country
Well done to the Coomera Rivers team on their participation at the district cross-country this week. It was a great day. Our runners all represented our school brilliantly well. Special congratulations to Flynn, Paxton, Honor and Zara who qualified for the Broadwater District team and will be competing in the South Coast cross-country event in the coming weeks.

And good luck to our Kokoda squad who are training at Nerang early tomorrow morning. Let's hope for good weather.
Have a lovely long weekend.
Kind regards
Vic

Celebrating Prep
Our prep students have started learning to write retells from some beloved story books. Mums and dads may have noticed some 'Gruffalo Caves' popping up in classrooms and other activity centres to spark the imagination. Students have also been engaged in their Resilience Project lessons and learning about different emotions.

Celebrating Year 1
Some creepy crawlies seem to be multiplying across the year 1 classrooms, with more stick insect habitats being installed. Students are learning to write information reports about mini-beasts and all their fascinating features. Our year 1s were also busy engaging with their Resilience Project lessons, learning about gratitude and empathy, what they mean and why they are important.

Celebrating Year 2
Year 2 are learning to write informative texts about famous Australian landmarks. This week we took a flight on Coomera Rivers Airways to travel to our first destination, The Parkes Radio Telescope in New South Wales. We needed our boarding passes and passports for the security check and our iPads to access the in-flight entertainment. The highlight was definitely choosing snacks and drinks from the trolley and the safety briefing from the flight attendant (Miss Bray)! After our fight landed, we wrote diary entries about our journey. We made sure we added our ‘plane flight’ to the gratitude wall that we started after learning about ‘Dis Moments’ in the Resilience Project.
The Annual General Meeting of the Coomera Rivers State School P&C will be held on Monday 28 April at 5.30pm in the Corporate Services building of Coomera Rivers State School.
A general meeting of the association will be held directly after the AGM.
