Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
A once in a lifetime experience
Everyone in our school came out to the oval on Wednesday morning to see Ella, Isaac and Kendall arrive by helicopter. Ella had won the first prize in the Pacific Air Show promotion and their smiles were enormous. I was privileged to see video of the children in the helicopter as they travelled from Southport and their excitement was so heart-warming. I believe that the ride was also shown on Channel 7 and Channel 9 news on Wednesday evening. We also had some fun hamming it up in front of the news cameras as well.
Thank you to our wonderful staff and students for repositioning prior to the helicopter arriving. As it turned out, everyone had a fantastic view of the landing and take off. Thank you to Richard from Richard McLaren Photography for his photographs. They were amazing! And thank you also to Pacific Air Show for their prize - as it turned out, everyone at school managed to win.

Bullying no way - National week of action
Coomera Rivers will be participating in the annual Bullying No Way - National week of action - once again this year. We will be investigating and learning about bullying and kindness and holding a free dress day on Friday 16 August. We will ask for a gold coin donation from all involved. The theme is PURPLE and we encourage all students and adults to come to school sporting this colour. Click here for more information.
Congratulations Ashtiva
Ashtiva competed in the Gold Coast Short Course Swimming Championships on Saturday and Sunday. She qualified to compete in 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 100m Individual Medley, and 100m breaststroke.
It was a tough competition. She placed 9th in the 10yr age group for 50m breaststroke (45.88s) and achieved a new personal best in the butterfly (43.43s).
She has qualified for the Queensland Short Course Championships being held in August. What an awesome achievement.

Chickenpox is about
We have a confirmed case of chickenpox in Year 5. Please refer to the Time Out poster below and contact your family doctor should you be concerned.
Parent-teacher interviews
Parent-teacher interviews are planned for Monday 19 August so please mark this date on your calendars. I will send home the booking instructions next newsletter.
Inter-school sport commences
The Term 3 season is about to start and we will have hundreds of students involved. The school expectations of all students is to:
- Wear complete uniform (as per the team requirements). Students will not be able to participate if they are not in the complete team strip including correct socks, shoes, shorts, hat and school tracksuit.
- Play for Fun - Fitness - Friendship. Less than a positive team-first spirit will result in students being dropped for one round. This includes parent behaviour as well.
Kind regards
Vic

Celebrating Prep
Students continue to learn their sounds in all different ways - learning how to apply their sound knowledge to their writing and recognised them in Bingo games.
Celebrating Year 1
Year 1 students continue their work on retelling well loved story books in a variety of ways.
Celebrating Year 2
This semester, Year 2 students are excited to be learning about space. 2B started the unit by using beads to represent each of the planets in our solar system and create bracelets and fidgets for our Calm Corner. Then we learned the mnemonic ‘My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Nachos’ (sorry Pluto) to help us remember the planets. We’ve also been writing narratives with a space theme. At the moment we are focusing on writing Sizzling Starts that begin with onomatopoeia to grab the reader’s attention and use ’Show, Don’t Tell’ to describe how the characters are feeling.

in some extra-curricular opportunities at school
Coomera Rivers is committed to offering our students as many additional opportunities as we can. Below is a list of the activities on offer this term. Some are privately provided opportunities held at school but most are run by our school staff. Most activities are free or very reasonably priced. Please contact the co-ordinator for more information if you are interested in your child participating.
As you will see, the older the students are, the greater the number of opportunities that exist for them. This is due to department regulations around competitive sport and other aspects of school.
Thank you sincerely to the staff teams who provide their time and expertise for the students. I am very grateful for their generous contributions.

of the P&C Association
The next general meeting of the P&C Association will be held on Tuesday 18 February at 7:00pm, via TEAMS.
Please email the P&C at pandc@coomerariversss.eq.edu.au for a TEAMS link.
P&C meetings are a great way to keep up to date with what is going on around our school. The meetings also provide our families with an opportunity to have input and feedback on matters relating to school and community life. Meetings are open to all families and we encourage families to attend our on-line meeting and contribute to your school community which forms a vital part of your children's educational journey.
We look forward to seeing you on-line at our next meeting.
The school dental van is based at Coomera Rivers.
