Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
A chilly start to the mornings again this week but the cold weather is expected to end in the next couple of weeks. But before then, our instrumental band will be heading to the Gold Coast Eisteddfod to perform, and we will be acknowledging the significance of Bullying No Way day with a free dress day.
If you have not yet investigated the Crusaders Cafe, I can highly recommend it to you. The menu has grown significantly and more developments are coming soon. Read on in this issue of the school newsletter to learn more.
Bullying no way - National week of action
Coomera Rivers will be participating in the annual Bullying No Way - National week of action - once again this year. We will be investigating and learning about bullying and kindness and holding a free dress day on Friday 16 August. We will ask for a gold coin donation from all staff and students. The theme is PURPLE and we encourage all students and adults to come to school sporting this colour. Click here for more information.
Inter-school sport commenced
I was proud of the students who participated in the first day of the inter school sport competition this week. At Coomera Rivers, The focus of inter-school sport at Coomera Rivers is to provide opportunities for students to:
- participate for fun - fitness - friendship, learning new skills and meeting new friends.
- represent our school through sportsmanship, service to team and pride.
Representing the school requires students to be wearing correct and full uniform. Choosing to not meet the team uniform requirements will mean students will not be participating on that day and will remain at school. The school will do its best to assist with any uniform problems up until the end of the day before. Please note that we do not have capacity to be contacting families on the morning of sport as we are already busy with other preparations.
Correct uniform means:
- Shoes - Plain black joggers to wear to & from the venue / Game shoes while playing (No slides, crocs or thongs whatsoever)
- Socks - All plain white socks must sit naturally above the ankle. Team socks are provided for some sports.
- Shorts - School sports shorts. Team shorts are provided for some sports.
- Jersey or team shirt
- Sport specific items like mouth guards / head protection / shin guards etc.
- School bucket hat
- School jacket
- Jewellery - No jewellery can be worn in sporting competition.
- Sunscreen - Cream that can be rubbed in to become invisible / No Zinc or face paint
- Phones - No phones can be left with students while at school or at sport. They need to be left with the school office.
Parent, family and player conduct:
It is vital that we teach our children the importance of playing for the values of fun - fitness - friendship. Remarks to referees and umpires or players from other teams that illustrate poor sportsmanship are never acceptable. Our players know the significance of this respect and understand that they will miss match time for breaches. These decisions are up to the coach and Principal. Unfortunately, students will also miss match time if parents or family members do not or cannot model the expectations.

Celebrating Year 3
Year 3's Exciting Science Adventures: Exploring Soil, Rocks, and Minerals
This term, our Year 3 students have embarked on an incredible journey through the fascinating world of soil, rocks, and minerals in their science lessons. They've been delving into the mysteries of the Earth's layers, discovering the various types of rocks, and learning about the processes that form them.
Our young geologists have been busy asking intriguing questions, making thoughtful predictions, and even using magnifying glasses to examine samples up close. Their enthusiasm and curiosity mirror those of real scientists as they explore and uncover the secrets of the ground beneath our feet. There has been lots of discovery and hands-on learning!
Celebrating Year 4
Year 4 students have been practising mindful movement this week as part of the Resilience Project. This activity involves trialling in a number of meditation techniques to encourage relaxation and a clear, ready to learn mindset. One of the meditation techniques classes participated in was yoga. Students thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of moving their bodies into different positions, practising their breathing and sharing a laugh or two.
Special Visitor in Year 5
The Year 5 students were treated to a visit by Peter from Environmental Divers. They learnt about the amazing work he and his volunteers do to clean up our waterways. The students were very interested in his diving gear and the different types of waste he has found during his rubbish dives. Each bag of rubbish he retrieves from the ocean weighs in at approximately 45kg. This visit has sparked students' curiosity into thinking about our local issues in our community and solutions that can be created as part of their Global Goal HASS unit. They will continue to deep dive into these topics over the semester.
Celebrating Year 5
5L have been busy learning about persuasive writing and learning to persuade an audience with their point of view.

Year 5 Swimming Star!
Congratulations to Ashtiva who recently competed in the Gold Coast Short Course Swimming Championships. She qualified to compete in 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 100m Individual Medley, and 100m breaststroke.

Student Leadership Duty Commitment
Year 5 students have been practicing the school virtues of 'Service, Action and Respect' as they take on leadership duties around the school. They are following in the footsteps of our Year 6 students, many of whom have been successfully taking on leadership duties over the past 6 months. What great role models to our younger students.
Students who complete 10 leadership duties are acknowledged at Assembly, with a certificate, and also on their semester report card.
Students who complete 20 duties are acknowledged at Assembly with a certificate, and also on their semester report card, as well as rewarded with an iLead@Coomera Rivers State School leadership pen.
Students who complete 30 duties are acknowledged at Assembly with a certificate, and also on their semester report card, as well as rewarded with a slushie or hot chocolate, of their choice, from our Cafe.
Students who complete 40 duties are acknowledged at Assembly with a certificate, and also on their semester report card, as well as awarded a leadership trophy at the End of Year Awards Assembly.

Celebrating Year 5 & 6 Interschool Sport Netball and Basketball
Day 1 of 3, Interschool Sport days was a success for our Netball and Basketball students as they practiced playing for fun, fitness and friendship, all with a smile :) Thank you coaches for your efforts with your teams.

in some extra-curricular opportunities at school
Coomera Rivers is committed to offering our students as many additional opportunities as we can. Below is a list of the activities on offer this term. Some are privately provided opportunities held at school but most are run by our school staff. Most activities are free or very reasonably priced. Please contact the co-ordinator for more information if you are interested in your child participating.
As you will see, the older the students are, the greater the number of opportunities that exist for them. This is due to department regulations around competitive sport and other aspects of school.
Thank you sincerely to the staff teams who provide their time and expertise for the students. I am very grateful for their generous contributions.

Providing our families with the highest quality of care and a program of activities that is reflective our children's choices is the number one priority for our OSHC team.
The team proactively ask families and students for feedback and ideas to ensure that they are continual reviewing and improving their service and program.
With that in mind, it was lovely to receive the below feedback letter from one of our OSHC students.
The Week 7 home-made meal is
Don't forget to order your Wholesome Wednesday
Your feedback is welcomed
We our committed to making the Crusaders Café menu one that all of our students and staff love.
The only way to achieve this is through honest feedback and continual change and, with this in mind, we want to thank those families and staff that have provided their honest feedback. Please trust that any suggestion is being reviewed and considered.
If you would like to share your feedback for Crusaders Café, please do so here. If you have a suggestion or a question, please email us.
