Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Fostering Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness in Our Children
At Coomera Rivers, we believe in nurturing not just academic skills, but also the emotional and social wellbeing of our students. Each day students engage in lessons that focus on being Good at Learning and Good at Life. One of the most impactful ways we can support this growth is through meaningful conversations about gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness. These values are essential in helping children develop into compassionate, resilient, and well-rounded individuals.
**Gratitude** teaches children to appreciate what they have and recognise the kindness in others. When children learn to express gratitude, they develop a more positive outlook on life, which can lead to greater happiness and stronger relationships.
**Empathy** allows children to understand and share the feelings of others. By discussing empathy, we can help children to consider different perspectives and be more compassionate towards their peers. This not only builds stronger friendships but also helps in creating a more inclusive and supportive school environment.
**Mindfulness** is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the moment. Encouraging children to be mindful helps them manage stress, focus better on their tasks, and develop a deeper understanding of their emotions. This practice can significantly enhance their learning experiences and overall wellbeing.
We encourage all families to take a few moments each day to talk with their children about these important values. Ask questions like, "What are you thankful for today?" or "How do you think your friend felt when…?" Simple conversations like these can have a lasting impact on your child’s development.
Recently several staff members recorded a GEM chat that they had with their family to share with us all.
Staff used The Resilience Project GEM chats cards to help focus their conversations. These are intended to be used in a diverse range of settings such as family dinners, road trips, or in the classroom, aiming to ignite discussions and inspire the practical use of GEM principles in daily life.
These cards can be found by accessing The Resilience Project Parent Hub.
Thank you to the P&C for sponsoring our membership to this valuable resource.
Junior School Father's Day Celebrations
Prep
Shiver me timbers! What fun was had at our annual Prep Pirate Father's Day. Students, staff and family members searched for buried treasure, created all sorts of nautical craft and generally had a swashbuckling good time.

Year 1
It was a wonderful afternoon for some games and a picnic on Wednesday, with dads and special family members and friends visiting the year 1 precinct.

Public Holiday Tomorrow - No School
Just a reminder that tomorrow Friday August 30th is the Gold Coast Show public holiday.
Get ready for 2025
Are your leaving us next year?
If you know that your family is leaving the school at the end of this year, can you please let Mrs Finch know, either by email or phone 55968333. This way we can create classes on as accurate a number as possible.
Happy Father's day to all the dads in our community and all who embrace this important role. Have a lovely long weekend.

Celebrating Year 3
The term is quickly drawing to an end, two more weeks to go. This week we have started reading our book called Wylah (pronounced Weela). This is a thrilling adventure inspired by First Nations history. We need a munch and crunch break in our morning session to replenish our energy.
We are learning to LISTEN, THINK and then ACT. We use a GROWTH mindset to keep us positive and persevere with challenging situations.
We enjoyed making our collage pictures and Father’s day gifts. Hope all father’s enjoy being spoilt on Sunday.

Celebrating Year 4
It's been an action-packed couple of weeks for our Year 4 students! From doing an amazing job preforming in the Jungle Book to honing their public speaking skills, the energy in the classrooms has been incredible. It was heartwarming to see students supporting their peers on stage during the musical!
4E have been channelling their persuasive powers in a creative way—writing letters to their parents to convince them to make / buy their favourite dinner! We hope they succeeded in persuading you. In addition to their writing adventures, students have been diving into new math concepts through engaging games like "I Have, Who Has," playground hunts, and fraction dominoes. In 4E, we believe that learning is best when it’s fun, and we’ve been having a blast! With two more weeks of school left this term, we still have lots of learning to complete and a whole lot of new and exciting ways to do so!

Celebrating Year 5
As part of their Global Goals unit for HASS, Year 5 students are investigating the question, 'How can we use our understanding of the Global Goals to improve our community?' and learning about what various charities do to support community.

Year 6 Yes Days
Year 6 students continue to enjoy the many different activities on offer on Yes Days. Thank you to all staff, including the Year 6 teachers, who lead these activities with students.

Maths Fun!
6C students thoroughly enjoy the challenge that Mrs Collis gives them when they need to guess a number, and beat the teacher, during their Number Talks. They are consolidating their understanding of place value and Number Facts.

Coomera Rivers sent 3 touch teams along to the SQPAS tournament, where they played against other primary schools in touch footy. The competition was tough, and our teams were tested. Our boys team made it to semi-finals, and lost to Palm Beach in a double-drop-off, and Palm Beach went on to win the tournament... so close! Our senior girls team went through tournament undefeated, winning the grand final 5 – 1. Well done to our junior girls who fought hard all day.

of the P&C Association
The next general meeting of the P&C Association will be held on Tuesday 18 February at 7:00pm, via TEAMS.
Please email the P&C at pandc@coomerariversss.eq.edu.au for a TEAMS link.
P&C meetings are a great way to keep up to date with what is going on around our school. The meetings also provide our families with an opportunity to have input and feedback on matters relating to school and community life. Meetings are open to all families and we encourage families to attend our on-line meeting and contribute to your school community which forms a vital part of your children's educational journey.
We look forward to seeing you on-line at our next meeting.
Celebrating Queensland's School Crossing Supervisors for 40 years of service
This year, Queensland’s School Crossing Supervisor Scheme celebrates 40 years of keeping kids safe as they travel to and from school.
We'd like to say a big thank you to our wonderful School Crossing Supervisors for everything they do for our students and school community! They do a great job keeping our students and other pedestrians safe as they cross the road in peak drop-off and pick-up times.
Why not say a big thank you the next time you see them on duty! You can also show your appreciation for School Crossing Supervisors by slowing down, following directions and being courteous while travelling in our school zone.
Did you know?
- The School Crossing Supervisor Scheme is operated by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
- There are more than 2000 school crossing supervisors who operate over 1300 crossings at more than 700 Queensland schools.
- Therehas not been a single fatality on a supervised crossing since the scheme started in 1984.
Thank you to our wonderful School Crossing Supervisors!
in some extra-curricular opportunities at school
Coomera Rivers is committed to offering our students as many additional opportunities as we can. Below is a list of the activities on offer this term. Some are privately provided opportunities held at school but most are run by our school staff. Most activities are free or very reasonably priced. Please contact the co-ordinator for more information if you are interested in your child participating.
As you will see, the older the students are, the greater the number of opportunities that exist for them. This is due to department regulations around competitive sport and other aspects of school.
Thank you sincerely to the staff teams who provide their time and expertise for the students. I am very grateful for their generous contributions.
