Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Welcome back to school for the final term of the year. We have some exciting things happening this term so be sure to keep up to date with everything.
Book Week & dress up day
We are celebrating Book Week with our Book Fair and dress up day from 14-18 October. Dress up day is Friday 18 October and is always an annual highlight. Be sure to check out the Book Fair as well.
Facilities changes
Be sure to check out the refurbished iCentre in the coming weeks. All of the furniture has been updated and the whole space looks so inviting. This is perfect for the Book Fair which starts in Week 3.
We have also had quite a lot of work done on the gardens across the spring vacation in preparation for the warmer growing season. They are looking great.
The department has relocated two of our modular buildings to serve another school in the region and we will soon have the space for play. We will spend some time on planning to develop the spaces at some point next year. Look closely at the image below and you will see part of the building being craned onto a semi-trailer.
Coomera Cup
I was once again impressed with our children this week when they represented Coomera Rivers in the Coomera Cup. School sport is about participating for fun - fitness and friendship. Win lose or draw, this ethos is far more important than the scoreboard. Thank you to our team of dedicated coaches and the many families who cheered on our players as well.
Christmas Concert
The annual Christmas Concert returns this year. So please add Friday 6 December to the pantry calendar. More details will be sent home across the coming months.
Story time
We are excited to invite parents and children to our Morning Storytime Sessions in the newly refurbished iCentre. Come along and explore the bright, fresh space while enjoying a range of wonderful books together. It’s a great way to start the day with some quality reading time, and a perfect opportunity to discover all the exciting new changes in the iCentre. We look forward to seeing you there!
Be sure to enjoy your long weekend.
Kind regards
Vic
Congratulations to these amazing students!

Celebrating Prep
This week Prep students have been learning about Fairytales and read and listened to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Students then wrote what they liked and disliked about the story. We did some creative writing and the Prep students had to imagine what they would do in the Bears house if they were Goldilocks. Some of their ideas were very inventive.
The Preps also enjoyed discovering our castle themed rooms this week. They interacted with each other, worked on their story telling with puppets and acted out alternate story lines using characters or themselves. They also explored number through counting and subitizing in mathematics and amazed our teachers with their verbal counting forwards and backwards!
Celebrating Year 1
This week 1A have been learning about data in mathematics. They decided to go out and collect data from people around the school by asking them their favourite season. They spent the morning finding participants for our survey and recorded all their answers. They then used this information to graph the findings and interpret the data.
Celebrating Year 2
Welcome back to Term 4! This term, Year 2 students will be diving into some exciting new topics. We are learning about persuasive texts, where students will practice expressing their opinions and convincing others through writing. In Maths, we are focusing on money, helping children understand Australian coins and notes, time, as well as place value, strengthening their understanding of numbers up to 1000. We’re excited for a term filled with growth and fun learning opportunities!

14-23 October
Some magical changes have taken place in our iCentre during the last holidays and all will be unveiled when we open our annual book fair. We will be open on Monday 14 October for Book Fair from 7:30am to 3pm. Our last day for selling will be Wednesday 23 October as this gives us time to pack up and finalize all the required Scholastic documents. Students will also have a chance to view our books with their classes and make some wishlists.
Purchases can be made by card, cash or online.
If ordering online – Parents pay the purchase amount for the items they want. The receipt number must be taken to Ms Katie at the Book Fair so items can be ordered online. Items cannot be ordered online at home – only via the fair itself.
If paying by cash – students may bring in small amounts of cash to make purchases (they can buy books and stationery from the fair with cash. Parents are advised to only send small amounts of money with students if they are responsible enough to look after this. Younger students should be accompanied by a parent to complete cash purchases.
Our dress up day will be held on Friday the 18th October with prizes once again being offered for the best costumes across the school.
Please contact Ms Katie in the iCentre if you have any questions.
Well done to all students who packed a Waste Free Lunch Box every week for Waste Free Wednesday this term. The winner of our major prize - a sustainable lunch box pack - is Olivia from 3J. Congratulations Olivia!

in some extra-curricular opportunities at school this term
Coomera Rivers is committed to offering our students as many additional opportunities as we can. Below is a list of the activities on offer this term. Some are privately provided opportunities held at school but most are run by our school staff. Most activities are free or very reasonably priced. Please contact the co-ordinator for more information if you are interested in your child participating.
As you will see, the older the students are, the greater the number of opportunities that exist for them. This is due to department regulations around competitive sport and other aspects of school.
Thank you sincerely to the staff teams who provide their time and expertise for the students. I am very grateful for their generous contributions.
