Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
A wet end to what has been a brilliant week at school.
I was privileged to spend time in classrooms this week watching some incredible teaching of writing. At Coomera Rivers, our teachers spend time each week watching other teachers at work - sharing their expertise - as we aim to create an expert teaching team. Congratulations to Ms McNamara, Mrs Worland, Miss Wolbers and Mrs Hardwick for sharing their incredible skills.

Young writers excel
This week, Emma, Isobel and Scarlett were selected to attend the Jacobs Well EEC Year 6 Writers’ Workshop for 2020. The girls were selected for their writing ability, joining others from various primary schools in our region. Their flair for writing was enhanced with new knowledge and skills gained through the three day, intensive workshop with well known author Anita Bell. We are all excited to see the girls' creative master pieces published in a few weeks time.

Paw-some Poppi
Yes you are seeing correctly. Poppi, our very own Story Dog is here. A very big thank you to Mrs Pinnington and the Animal Welfare League for getting Poppi trained, checked and approved to become our story dog.
The first session was fantastic. The kids were so gentle and kind to Poppi and loved having her listen to them read. She sat and listened and then wondered where they were going at changeover time.

Congratulations to:
- Brianna on her selection in the Broadwater District girls cricket team

This week's sensational students include:
Prep and Year 1

Year 2 and Year 3

Year 4

Year 5 and Year 6

This week we have seen these Masters of Mathletics. Check out the class trophies! Wow!

And some other amazing achievements across our classrooms this week include:

A selected group of boys from Year 4,5 and 6 had their first hit out of the season, playing back to back games against Livingstone College and Ormeau State School. This determined group made the most of their opportunities sharing the goal kicking responsibilities and taking home the win in both games. More importantly, all of the students displayed a high-level of sportsmanship and respect.
I am very proud of all of the players and it was great to see the development in the first time players, and the leadership and encouragement shown by the boys who have previously played and play club football outside of school. It was a spectacular effort from the whole AFL team and a true representation of Fun, Fitness and Friendship.
Training will continue every Thursday after school and our next game is at the ALFQ Schools Cup.
Over the past weeks, we have had some confusion when it comes to homework time. What should the kids do, what should they be doing, what are their homework goals for the week? Well now we’ve got that sorted! A big thank you to Miss Courtney for making up an easy to follow homework grid for all our year levels! This was introduced last week and has already made a huge difference at homework time. The students now stay on task, and if they aren’t sure of what they should be doing, we can just refer to our handy homework grid. Our homework grid has made such an impact on the students learning, as we try our best to mix it up each day. Between Mathletics, literacy, reading and our homework resources, it has given all students a nice variety each afternoon when they reach the iCentre.
