Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Thank you to everyone who added to this week's opportunities and success.
Staff Appreciation Day
Thank you to our wonderful staff team for the extraordinary work they do – every day – in educating, inspiring and nurturing our children. Thank you also to the many families and our P&C who recognised them today.
Thank you to everyone who braved the very cool Spooky Disco tonight. The weather had turned unseasonably cool with the strong southerly winds but the night was still great fun. Thank you to our P&C, DJ Brett and the band of staff and parent volunteers who made the night fun for the kids.

EcoMarines
Last Thursday, our Environmental Leaders, along with their families and Miss Landers, attended an EcoMarine Breakfast hosted by the Gold Coast City Council.
Lila, Evelyn and Meah presented the school's environmental initiatives that they have led in 2023 to the other EcoMarine Gold Coast Schools and the Gold Coast Councillors. They spoke extremely well and were presented with certificates by the acting Mayor, Donna Gates. We are extremely proud of all that they have achieved at Coomera Rivers this year.
Inter-school chess competition
On Wednesday, 18 of our talented chess players headed to Emmanuel College for the Term 4 Gold Coast Chess Age Championships. There were over 800 students from Prep – Year 12 competing in the competition on the day.
Our students had the chance to showcase their strategic thinking throughout the seven games that were played on the day, as they competed against students from various schools in the regions. The most pleasing take away from the day was the sportsmanship shown from the Coomera Rivers students. We look forward to receiving the results from the day within the next week.

Day for Daniel
We raised $800 for the Day for Daniel free dress day today. Thank you Coomera Rivers. Our Student Council will send on our donation next week.
Respectful language expected at school
We value respect at Coomera Rivers and subsequently expect that everyone speaks respectfully at all times. Using swearing or abusive language is not ok. Students in Years 3-6 who might swear at teachers or in classrooms will be suspended from school - similar to using racial and offensive language consequences. Junior school students will receive multiple detentions and parents will be asked to help the school re-teach respectful language expectations. Swearing in the playground will result in major consequences as well. There just is no place for this behaviour in any part of our community and I know that parents will support this message.
Kind regards
Vic

Celebration of learning
In 2SH, we have been learning about counting small collections of money. We made piggy banks to collect our coins and completed activities counting out our money. We have also been writing persuasive texts. Today, we finished writing a persuasive text convincing Miss Sturgeon to buy a class pet!

Celebration of learning
Students in 3M have been busy learning all about Living and Non-Living Things. This week they have challenged their skills to become mini David Attenborough’s where they learned to create documentaries. Mrs Singh came in and gave them a mini lesson on using the App ‘Clips’. Students worked independently to put music, videos, pictures and words together to show that they could compare the difference between living and non-living things.
Skateboarding superstar
Congratulations to Louie from Year 3 on his recent achievements with his skateboarding. Louie placed 1st in the Mens Open competition at Redbank (watch his amazing run in the link below) and 1st in the Mens Open division at Alex skatepark at the Sunshine Coast.
Louie is skating this weekend at the Gold Coast 500 at Surfers Paradise, between the car races, as a demo for spectators.
Louie has Boost Mobile as a major sponsor, as well as others. What a talent he is.

Celebration of learning
In HASS this fortnight, Year Four students learnt about how temperature and rainfall impact vegetation and climate. They identified the temperature, vegetation and rainfall in different climate zones and displayed this information on a poster.
This week, students learnt about how vegetation and climate determine the types of living things in an area. Students created another poster that identified animals living in Egypt, South Africa or Brazil and explained why these animals live in these locations.
In Week Three, students worked in collaborative learning teams to explore the parts of a flower. We studied lilies that were cut through longways, so that they could observe a cross section of the flower. We discussed that pollination is when pollen is transferred from the male parts of the flower, the anther, to the female part of the flower, the stigma. Once this happens fertilisation occurs and a seed will grow. Finally, we will look at the life cycle of a tomato plant.
This week, the Year 4 participated in a hands-on experiment that highlighted the shared experiences of the beneficial relationship between flowers and bees. After, students created labelled illustrations to explain why and how bees pollinate flowers.
Caprice is an All Star
Caprice competed in the Queensland championships in September as part of her cheerleading team. Her team, the Gold Coast All Stars, won the competition. This means that Caprice and her teammates will be going to Melbourne in November (23-27) for the cheerleading nationals competition. This will be an exciting experience.

Both our girls and boys teams remained undefeated in their pools, showcasing exceptional teamwork and skill. While our girls' team narrowly missed the win in a gripping semifinal, our boys powered through to claim the Grand Final victory. A huge thank you to Mr. Liam for stepping in for Mr Burrows while he is on leave. Congratulations to our exceptional touch players for their remarkable achievements on the field.
The senior touch team will participate in the QLD All Schools touch competition in the coming weeks.

2024 Year 6 senior shirt opportunity
It is with great excitement that we open the orders for our 2024 seniors shirts.
Our Year 5 students have been involved in a design development process that culminated in six designs being presented to the cohort. Every Year 5 student was then able to vote on their favourite with the design with the most votes becoming our 2024 senior shirt design.
An image of the finalised design for 2024 can be found below.
Important information - What you need to know.
- Orders are open to our current Year 5 (Class of 2024) students only
