Colour Explosion is next Thursday
This coming Thursday is our Colour Explosion event.
- Students will be participating in the Colour Explosion in bare feet
- We are unable to call home for forgotten Colour Explosion gear so please make sure that you set yourself a reminder, put a note on the fridge - whatever it takes - but don’t forget to pack that Colour Explosion gear.
- Students will NOT be permitted to participate in their school uniform.
- The approximate time of each year levels attendance at the event can be found below.
- If you have not yet received communication from your teacher to confirm your child's participation at this event and believe that you should have, please email the P&C before 3:00pm Tuesday 21 November.

Birin brings belonging
In Australia, we are fortunate to have one of the richest and oldest continuing cultures in the world. Having a strong cultural identity and feeling safe, valued and like they belong in all aspects of the school community, is a priority for all students at Coomera Rivers. Over the past fortnight, some First Nations students in Years 2 and 3 have been engaging in cultural learning sessions with Birin Cultural Group.
Students have learned about the cultural significance of ochre markings, created some artworks using locally-sourced ochre, and learned about how naturally sourced resources were traditionally used by First Nations peoples.

Foxwell awards
I had the pleasure of attending the annual awards ceremony at Foxwell College this week. I enjoy very much seeing past students continuing to excel at secondary school. Congratulations to Mrs Harth and her staff on what was a fantastic event for our school community.
Whooping cough
I was asked by Queensland Health to contact families during the week to inform of a confirmed case of whooping cough in the school community. I am unaware of who was affected and where in the school they are. Please consult a medical specialist should you have any concerns.
Bus route changes for 2024
Have a great weekend.

Celebration of Learning
2OH have been very busy writing and marking a persuasive text to Mrs O’Sullivan persuading her to let them have free play on the oval. Each one of the children wrote a convincing text and did persuade her to take them to the oval for play.
All the children were put into groups where they,
- Had to work out the rules of play
- Who was going to start first and take turns collaborative
- They all had turns in giving a suggestion on what and where they were going to play
- They all had to listen to each other without interruption and be respectful
All the children in 20H were absolutely fantastic, Miss Ange and Mrs O’ Sullivan were so proud, well done 2OH

Music excellence
Congratulations to Olivia on completing her first AMEB exam for violin. She worked very hard in lessons and home practice and study towards her exam. She learned and performed scales, technical exercises, technical pieces and solo repertoire for the exam, as well as answering music theory questions and aural tests.
She received an A+ (High Distinction) for her exam, with some wonderful comments from their examiners about her music progress. These exams are Australia wide and this is the highest mark can be achieved. Olivia and her friend, Kayreen in Year 4, both study at Encore Strings, as well as taking small group lessons at school and playing in Coomera Rivers Senior Strings.
Celebration of Learning
After break each day in 3LS get Ready to Learn by relaxing and listening to classical music. This allows us to calm and focus. We have enjoyed reading The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, especially getting our tongues around the unusual words he has in the book, such as “whisper-ma-phone, Thneed, ga-zump and Bar-ba-loots”. We used our own creativeness by making up some new words as well: Trimathical Maths, Liberwhisper (Library) and Rememory Day(Rememberance Day).

Celebration of Learning
Year 4 have been creating Bee Hotels in MINECRAFT as their culminating activity in Science. After learning about animal and plant lifecycles, the importance of bees as pollinators and the impact on the environment and life without bees, the students were given the challenge to design and create a bee hotel that we could add to the gardens in our school to improve the environment.

2024 Student Leadership
Many of our Year 5 students have been working hard with applying for a student leadership position at our school for 2024. We have finalised the process for selecting our Heads of School and Heads of Student Council and we hope to finalise all other leadership positions prior to the end of this year.
Congratulations to the following students:
2024 Heads of School = Olivia Smallman and Landon Del Re

Year 5 Trade Show
Year 5 students recently participated in their annual TradeShow. We were extremely impressed by their projects and their interactions with our guests. · Su-pill Filling Good
· Creative Clothing
· Seeing Seas
· Climate Crushers
· Self-Confidence Heroes
· Helper Hands
They all did an amazing job standing in front of all Year 5 students, teachers and panelist to pitch their solutions to local problems.
The winner of The Year 5 Annual TradeShow was Su-pill Filling good – Charles and Bailey.

Our Annual Time to Shine concert was held this week and our bands, choirs, dance troupe and strings ensembles performed to a very appreciative audience. The quality of the performances was terrific and the public speakers, emcees and teachers did an outstanding job of keeping the audience entertained for the 75 minute concert.
Our very own Queen of Drama, Mrs Ellison, took the opportunity to announce the 2024 school musical to be 'The Jungle Book'. Auditions will commence in the new year.
Congratulations to the groups that performed so splendidly. I would also like to commend and sincerely thank our Arts teachers, Mr Owens (Band), Mrs Blyth (Strings) and Mrs Ellison (Arts) for their wonderful contribution to our school this year. They have been amazing.

Chess club finished the year with three grand finals and a party bag to take home.
It has been a very successful semester of chess and the improvement in players is very noticeable. Even our preppies are playing strong chess!
Congratulations to:

Volunteers are an amazing and valued asset to Coomera Rivers. They help us in classrooms, on excursions, in the library and in Crusaders Cafe. In 2025 we need your help more than ever before.
As you may know, by law, you must complete an annual induction and registration process. This is a simple process and ensures that we meet all regulatory requirements in the way of mandatory training required by the Department of Education.
- on an excursion
- in the classroom
- in Crusaders Cafe
- at school events or
- in any other capacity within the school community
Colour Explosion Prize Delivery
We expect to receive and distribute prizes from the Colour Explosion event during Week 10 of this Term.
