Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
This has been a very busy but successful week at school. School photos, clean up schools day, musical auditions and Kokoda training has kept everyone very busy. The next four weeks at school will continue the very busy trend so please check the school calendar for events and details.
Kokoda challenge: Training is underway
And gosh was it humid. I joined many of the squad (and past students) at the Gainsborough Greens parkrun last weekend. I was very proud of the efforts of all of our young athletes. There were also number of mums who ran with the kids and showed their abilities.
Parkruns across the Gold Coast all begin at 7:00am each Saturday morning and there is a terrific selection of circuits to try out. They are completely free and are a wonderful way to kick start the weekend. Visit Parkrun for more information.
Our next training session is tomorrow at the Seaway where we will run the Main Beach - Spit trails. Despite the 6:00am start, it will once again be very warm.
Practice keeps us safe at school
We will be practising our lock down process next week. We practice evacuation drills and lock down drills each term - just in case they are ever necessary.
Have a great weekend
Vic

Celebrating Year 3
Fun with Data in 3J
3J students have been engaging in exciting lessons on data in the classroom. They've been actively involved in asking questions and using tally marks to gather information from their classmates. After collecting their data, students have been skilfully representing it in various types of graphs, enhancing their understanding of visual representations of data. These activities have made learning about data fun and helped develop important skills in mathematics.
Celebrating Year 4
Year 4 students are reading Birrung the Secret Friend as a class novel. Weekly activities around this class novel include summarising historical facts about Australia, identifying the main idea from each chapter, illustrating a main idea from each chapter, mentor sentences, vocabulary and diary recount writing. Students are participating in lessons where they use the main ideas from each chapter and turn them into a diary recount, taking on the character of Barney Bean. This week’s chapter was about Barney Bean experiencing his first Christmas with the Johnson family.
Celebrating Year 5
This week, students have been learning about 'Size of the Problem', and setting behaviour and learning goals, as part of our Good at Learning Good at Life program.
Size of the Problem helps students identify the appropriate reaction to match the severity of a problem. When students have a common language to describe their problems and reactions, they can better identify solutions.

Celebrating Year 6
6F have decided to buddy up with a class in our junior school, 1L, and not only get to know them and help them with learning but also put a huge smile on their faces in the process. What a great example of our senior students leading! Thank you and keep up the great work, Mrs Fischer and 6F :)

Leading our environmental awareness
With Ms Landers
On Thursday we received a visit from Jayde and Cathy from Pimpama and Southport Bunnings to spruce up our school veggie garden. They came in and weeded our garden beds before the Year 3-6 Environmental Warriors planted fresh herbs and veggies. The students were excited to learn about the different vegetables and the importance of bees in helping the vegetables to grow. We look forward to watching our veggies grow and taking care of our new and improved garden.

Clean Up Schools Day
Today was Clean Up Schools Day. The Environmental Warriors dedicated some of their break to pick up rubbish around the school to make Coomera Rivers a cleaner place. The students were very proud of their efforts and noticed the difference. The most frequent rubbish picked up was soft plastics and straw packets.

Clean Up Schools Day also had the teachers thinking about what they could do to make the environment a cleaner place?
With Mrs Duffy, Ms Findlay and Mr Burrows
Broadwater Basketball
Congratulations to Lucan and Maioha who were selected in the Broadwater Basketball teams. The South Coast carnival is next week. Maioha is lucky to have her sister, and our former student, Kiahna, join her in the Broadwater team.
Trialling this week
- Good luck to Paxton, Flynn & Baylin who were trialing for the Broadwater AFL team on Monday afternoon.
- Good luck to Shayla, Nylah, Zara, Nia, Tae & Flynn who will trial for Broadwater touch on Tuesday afternoon.
Broadwater Rugby League
We will conduct our Rugby League trials at school on Monday. Reminder that students will have needed to return their permission note to trial. They will also need to have a spare shirt and a mouthguard to trial. Boots are recommended.
Cafe volunteers needed next week
The Annual General Meeting of the Coomera Rivers State School P&C will be held on Monday 28 April at 5.30pm in the Corporate Services building of Coomera Rivers State School.
A general meeting of the association will be held directly after the AGM.

Servicing your bike will help keep it in pristine condition to maintain performance and ensure that you’re riding a bike that is safe. Often people have invested a lot of money in their bike and don’t worry much about servicing, but just like your car you need to service your bike regularly. Servicing your bike will increase the life of your parts and give you a much better riding experience.
99 Bikes, proud sponsors of our Term 1 River Reward program, have not only been kind enough to donate a bike that one lucky Year 4 – 6 students will win this Term, they have also put together an exclusive package of offers for our families to help with the safety and servicing of your bikes.
Please see the attached flyer for full details.
We thank 99 Bikes for the support of our school and community.
