Thank you to all families who have organised their parent-teacher interviews for next week. If you have missed the booking deadline, please cobntact your child's teacher to discuss your options.
Have you thought about the questions that you would like to ask?
Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Highlights this week have been Year 6 day camps, Year 2 swimming and the Year 1 excursion to Jacobs Well Environmental Centre. Gosh it has been busy. A glance at the calendar will show you another huge week of learning and opportunities next week - and it is a short week as well.
Attendance this term
Term 1 has just four days remaining. Of the 48 school days, did your child miss any days? Attendance at school is so important - especially in the early years when school habits are formed. Minimising days away from the classroom is vital for learning and social development.
One or two days each week may not seem like much but look how it adds up.
If your child misses ... | That equals ... | Which is ... | And over 13 years of schooling that is ... | Which means the best your child might perform is ... |
1 day per fortnight | 20 days each year | Equal to 4 weeks of school each year | Nearly 1.5 years missed | Equal to finishing in Year 11 |
1 day per week | 40 days each year | Equal to 8 weeks of school each year | Over 2.5 years missed | Equal to finishing in Year 10 |
2 days per week | 80 days each year | Equal to 16 weeks of school or 1.5 terms each year | Over 5 years missed | Equal to finishing in Year 7 |
Every parent wants success for their children and attending school is one of the ways to build it - it is never too late to improve. If you need assistance with school attendance, please contact us.
Parent-teacher interviews
Thank you to all of the families who have booked an interview with their child's teacher. I am sure that you will leave the conversations with a lot of very valuable information. Interviews are planned for next Monday and Tuesday afternoons. All interviews are being held in the school hall. You will have received a booking confirmation so please be early. There is a group waiting area and we will count down the change over times across the sessions.
All parents need to know this
Kokoda challenge
Last Saturday morning was a great training session at the Spit. We managed to cover between 10-12 km during the session, getting us much fitter for the Kokoda Schools Challenge in June. Thansk to the teachers, squad and super parents for a lovely morning.

Have a great weekend
Vic
Congratulations to these young learners on being sublime!

Celebrating learning in Prep
Our prep classrooms opened the doors to families to help with some Easter craft in preparation for our East Hat Parade celebrations. I can't wait to see all the hats on Parade next Thursday morning in the hall. Our prep students have also been busy practising their sound knowledge in a number of different ways.

Celebrating learning in Year 1
It has been an exciting fortnight for year 1 with their excursion to Jacobs Well Environmental Centre. Students learned to classify all sorts of interesting minibeasts that they found in the centre pond, and learned to hunt for crabs and other fauna in the mangroves. They returne, tired and a little muddy, and having throughly enjoyed themselves.

Celebrating learning in Year 2
We are always busy learning in 2H! We have been writing recounts about our shared experiences. Students have been involved in partner reading and reading to themselves. We have been engaged in learning about measurement, capacity, fractions and weight. Also, we have been super excited using IXL app for supporting our learning in English and Maths. 2H has been enthusiastically competing for mastered skills on out weekly class leader board.
Year 2 Swimming
This week Year 2 has been learning to swim or strengthen their swimming skills at Pimpama Sport Hub. Lessons have also focused on water safety and being safe in and around the water. These lesson definitely represent Fun, Fitness and Friendship!

Last weekend Ms Ellison had the absolute privilege of watching Olivia grace the stage up at Redcliffe Entertainment Centre. Our Year 4 star dazzled audiences singing, dancing and acting in the musical Joseph and the Technicolour Coat. You will be able to catch Olivia working in her element when she plays Mowgli for the Coomera Rivers State School production of The Jungle Book in Term 3.
