Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
The cooler weather is closing in so please organise your school pullovers and tracksuits as soon as you can. We enjoyed a lot of opportunities this week. Read on to see what we have been up to.

Year 3 excursion

Bookfair update
We would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Junior Bookfair. There were lots of happy families each day viewing the amazing books and resources on offer. Once again your support has enabled us to purchase some more amazing resources for our school.
If you aren’t sure how this works, our school receives a percentage of all sales in the form of Scholastic Reward Points and or product that we can use throughout the year. Just from this last Book fair we were able to receive $600 worth of books from the Bookfair shelves as well as around $500 in reward points.
If you didn’t have a chance to visit this Bookfair don’t despair our Great Big Bookfair will be happening in Term 4 and the theme this year is ‘Reading is Magic’. There will be a Colouring Competition and a Dress up Day as well as twice as many books to look at.
If you purchased from our Bookfair but haven’t received your order, please come into the iCentre and see our friendly staff.
There is one unclaimed ‘Mystery Order’ that was placed on Thursday 9 May before school. The order consisted of 2 books, one was collected that day the other book needed to be ordered. Please come and see us if you think this may be yours.
Happy Reading
Miss Katie and iCentre Staff
Kind regards
Vic

Celebration of Learning
Year 3
Our Year 3 students recently ventured beyond the classroom walls for an unforgettable excursion to Paradise Country. Amidst the picturesque backdrop of Australian bushland, they delved into the wonders of native wildlife, from cuddly koalas to curious Tasmanian devils. With wide-eyed wonder, they learned about the fascinating lives of these creatures and even had the chance to pat gentle goats, kangaroos and sheep.
But the excitement didn't stop there! Students savoured the taste of traditional damper and marvelled at the impressive skills of a sheepdog herding its woolly companions. Boomerang throwing added an extra thrill to the day, showcasing ancient Aboriginal techniques.
In a moment of both awe and laughter, Mrs. Amies bravely volunteered for a blindfolded challenge, resulting in a leaf being whipped from her mouth by a skilled handler!
Overall, it was a day filled with discovery, laughter, and hands-on learning!

Year 4
Year 4 students are participating in Close Reading sessions each week where they are introduced to an informative text. This term, students have been exposed to informative texts about the water cycle, the First Fleet and people of character such as Johnathan Thurston. The three sessions each week allow students to engage and make meaning of the text, explore vocabulary, annotate the text, and cohesively answer the comprehension questions. Choral reading, echo reading, and ‘jump in’ reading strategies are used to develop reading fluency and independent and shared confidence when reading an unfamiliar text. Shared and dialogic reading is an approach that the school implements to teach language comprehension that includes planned and explicit exploration of rich, varied texts. Students are working towards their Close Reading assessment which will summatively evaluate their knowledge and understanding of the Close Reading process.
Year 6 - P&C Celebration
Friday 24 May marked P&C Day and students across the school acknowledged our P&C with cards and gifts, for their amazing contribution to our school. Thank you for everything you do to help make Coomera Rivers an excellent school!

Inter-school sport (Term 2)
Congratulations to all of our Year 5 and Year 6 students who participated in this year's first inter-school sport season. It was very satisfying to hear all the positive feedback from out students over the two days of competition. They certainly loved their opportunities to represent our school.
A special shoutout to our Senior Division A Netball team who won the Division A Shield and went through both days of competition undefeated.
Thanks to our coaches and managers for all the work they have put in to make the two days run smoothly, and lastly, thanks to all our parents for coming to down to spectate over the few days.

Fanfare results really impress
This week our instrumental music ensembles had great success at the 2024 Fanfare State Schools Festival of Bands and Orchestras. On Monday Ms Hampson and Ms Ellison took our Senior Strings group on the bus to Pimpama State School to perform. They played their hearts out and came away with a Platinum Award- the highest ranking in the festival. After speaking with the adjudicator, Ms Ellison learned that up in the Central Queensland division, 120 ensembles performed with only 2 achieving the Platinum Award ranking. This speaks measures of our talented and dedicated our Senior Strings ensemble are!
On the following day, Mr Donnelly and Ms Ellison returned with both our Junior and Senior Band Groups. They also blew the adjudicators away bringing home two Bronze Awards for Coomera Rivers. For many of our band students, this was their first ever public performance which is a massive achievement in itself. We were thrilled with how the students conducted themselves and can’t wait to see more performances as they turn their attention to our upcoming Mid Year Showcase Concert and Gold Coast Eisteddfod.
Thank you sincerely to our Arts team of Mrs Ellison, Ms Hampson and Mr Donnelly on their fantastic work so far this year.
