Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues,
Classroom Relocations
This week saw two of our prep classes, and two of our year 2 classes - as well as many of our support personnel and specialists, move location. This has been in preparation for some of our demoutable buildings to be removed during the vacation period and rehomed at other educational facilities. I'd like to thank all our staff for undertaking the additional work this has placed upon them with grace and professionalism, whilst also maintaining learning and a positive approcah with their students. A thank you also to parents for helping students maintain a positive mindset with the move.
Chess Success
On Tuesday 27th August, some of our Chess Club members participated in the Interschool Chess Competition that was held at Arundel State School. There were over one hundred players from schools from across the North Gold Coast Region. I am sure when Mr. Graham returns from long service leave, he will be proud to hear that our students were wonderful representatives of our school and displayed great etiquette and sportsmanship on the day. We were delighted to see many of our participants on the day earn recognition in their various divisions.

Celebrating Prep
Our teachers have been super impressed with the outstanding progress our preppies have been making in their phonics instruction. They have recently completed new assessments and as a whole show some great growth. Well done!

Celebrating Year 1
During the last few weeks 1S has enjoyed exploring push and pull forces. We especially liked. We especially liked the hands on creation of our pom pom popper and having great conversations about an object can be moved by applying force to it.

Celebrating Year 2
Over the past term, 2B have been learning to write exciting, action-filled narratives. Before starting our assessment this week, we made UFOs to fly through our space tunnel. This helped students think about the descriptive language they could use to describe the setting, character’s emotions and the action. By the time we sat down to write, students were bursting with good ideas! This term students have also loved making a special space artwork with Ms Findlay.

Environmental Warriors - Eco-Marines
Last Friday, Bree from Gold Coast City Council and Jamila from Tangalooma Eco-Marines visited our School Environmental Leaders to chat about the environmental initiatives happening at Coomera Rivers State School. Bailey and Archer, our Year 6 leaders, shared the current Can Challenge event happening at our school and the fund-raising occurring to support our school garden. Bree and Jamila presented the boys with a photo montage board from their recent Tangalooma Excursion, and they very quickly spotted themselves amongst the green. We discussed further environmental initiative possibilities for the future and look forward to the EcoMarine Gold Coast breakfast event coming up.

in some extra-curricular opportunities at school
Coomera Rivers is committed to offering our students as many additional opportunities as we can. Below is a list of the activities on offer this term. Some are privately provided opportunities held at school but most are run by our school staff. Most activities are free or very reasonably priced. Please contact the co-ordinator for more information if you are interested in your child participating.
As you will see, the older the students are, the greater the number of opportunities that exist for them. This is due to department regulations around competitive sport and other aspects of school.
Thank you sincerely to the staff teams who provide their time and expertise for the students. I am very grateful for their generous contributions.
