We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we walk, live and learn, the Bullongin & Kombumerri people. We pay our deepest respects to Elders resting in the Dreamtime and to the Elders of today, who will continue to care, protect and nurture the Country that we gather on to learn and connect. We feel both privileged, and grateful to now be sharing and caring for the country on which we are living and learning.
Events, dates and times may change. Please check the school calendar regularly to keep updated.

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Thank you to everyone who has been supporting us with the water issues across the past week. We have a short term fix in place and will investigate the long term solution with the owners of the school. Despite all of the challenges, we have managed very well - thanks to our amazing staff team.
Some highlights this week

Disabled parking spaces
If you are registered with a disabled parking permit, could you please let me know. We have a single space in our carpark and I am wondering if this is enough. If the need is there, we will contact council to see what can be done.
School Council
Our school has a P&C AND a School Council. The P&C is open to all members of the school community and deals with supporting the school and students. The School Council is involved in establishing and monitoring the strategic plans of the school and meets once each term.
Membership of a School Council is different to a P&C. There are:
- 2 official members - Principal and P&C President,
- 2 elected members from staff
- 2 elected members from the parent body
Of the two parent positions currently on the School Council, one of those positions is up for re-election this year. If you are interested in nominating or know someone who may like to be nominated, please refer to the following information.
Nominations Open:
- Friday 14 February 2025.
- Nomination forms are available from Corporate Services between 8:00am and 3.00pm or by emailing the returning officer - Leonie Jenkins
Nominations Close:
- Friday 28 February 2025.
- Nominations must be received by the returning officer, via Corporate Services, before the deadline. These can be emailed to returning officer or delivered to Corporate Service between 8:00am and 3.00pm school days.
Election Date:
- Tuesday, 18 March 2025
Election Time:
- Polling booth is open from 8:00am - 9.30am and 12:00pm - 2.00pm on Tuesday 18 March.
Election Venue:
- Coomera Rivers Corporate Services Interview Room.
We look forward to your nomination.
Parent teacher interviews
Please make sure that you save Monday March 10 on your calendars for interviews with your child's teacher. Bookings will be managed on-line and I will send the necessary links and access codes in the next newsletter.
Year 6 senior shirts
We will be distributing the Year 6 Senior shirt next week to those students who ordered one late last year. Another ordering opportunity will open shortly. Please remember the conditions of purchase.
eScooters at school
eScooters are considered to be a personal mobility device in Queensland. In other words, they are considered as a type of vehicle, so users must comply with the rules for personal mobility devices and the general road rules. Click here to visit the Queensland Transport site.
To ride an e-scooter, the rider must be either:
- at least 16 years or
- at least 12 years and supervised by an adult while riding the device.
Children under 12 years of age must not ride personal mobility devices. This means that students at our school cannot ride e-scooters to and from school.
Carrying people
I was surprised to learn that a personal mobility device is designed for use by one person only. You must not carry another person when riding a personal mobility device—not even a child. Please model this requirement at school.
Have a great weekend

Celebrations of Learning
Prep
Wow what an amazing start to the year for Prep M! We have been learning lots of new things and rules during our first few weeks of school but we are doing really well. Prep M have been working on what the three school rules mean and how we can be ‘Good at learning and good at life’. We have also started learning our sounds in our RWI lessons which we are loving. One favourite things so far, was when we got to go to the magic red box and pretend where it could take us. We are asking to go back everyday! After visiting the box we got to draw a picture and describe where we would like the box to take us. Our other favourite thing has been sharing our ‘All about me’ bags to the class and we have loved getting to know each other that little bit more.

Year 1
1A loved getting to know our reading buddies from 5L! Our senior buddies bought down ‘getting to know you’ worksheets to find out all about us and our interests to help them select books to read us each week. We all had a lovely afternoon of getting to know each other and reading stories together. 1A is looking forward to seeing our buddies each week to develop our active listening and tracking skills while building new relationships with senior students.
Year 2
It’s hard to believe that we’ve only been at school for 3 weeks when you think about everything we have already done. A highlight for 2B was visiting the Mysterious Telephone box, and writing fantastic stories about the places we travelled too. Students also enjoyed having their parents visit the classroom to help them make time capsules that we will open together at the end of the year. One day in Week 2, students were surprised to find their classroom transformed into a lava zone. They had a blast navigating the obstacles to reach all of the maths challenges. This week, we’ve started our unit on mapping and location with a fun activity involving play doh.

Commendable dedication was demonstrated by these students this week.

Student leadership in 2025
Student Leadership at Coomera Rivers looks different in 2025, with the aim of providing more opportunities for students interested in leadership and service to lead across different areas in the school.
We have twoi badged leaders in 2025, our Heads of School, Nia and Emily. We look forward to seeing Nia and Emily also lead in other areas and model the way for our students.
There have been a number of callouts recently for students to apply to lead in different areas in our school. Application forms have been offered to students. These are also on our school website.
- Sports Leader (Year 6 only)
- Environmental Leader (Years 4-6)
- Digital Leader (Year 6 only)
- Rule Ranger (Year 6 only). This is being introduced this coming Assembly
- Arts Leader - coming soon.
Many of our Year 6 students have started leadership duty in different areas around school including Cafe, helping with Prep Cafe, Prep play areas and flying the national flags. The feedback from staff and our junior school students has been positive, suggesting they are already doing an awesome job! Thank you to these students.
Year 5 students will start leadership duty soon.

You can find out more about the leadership opportunities for our students in 2025 on our school website.
Deadline reminder for volunteers
Would you like to be eligible to offer your help on class excursions or in the classrooms or Café this year? Then we want you.
But first, you MUST be a registered and inducted volunteer. This is a legal and insurance requirement. The deadline to register and complete the induction is approaching.
**The deadline is Friday 7 March**

The next general meeting of the P&C Association will be held on Tuesday 18 February at 7:00pm, via TEAMS.
Please email the P&C at pandc@coomerariversss.eq.edu.au for a TEAMS link.
P&C meetings are a great way to keep up to date with what is going on around our school. The meetings also provide our families with an opportunity to have input and feedback on matters relating to school and community life. Meetings are open to all families and we encourage families to attend our on-line meeting and contribute to your school community which forms a vital part of your children's educational journey.
We look forward to seeing you on-line at our next meeting.
Volunteers are an amazing and valued asset to Coomera Rivers. They help us in classrooms, on excursions, in the library and in Crusaders Cafe. In 2025 we need your help more than ever before.
As you may know, by law, you must complete an annual induction and registration process. This is a simple process and ensures that we meet all regulatory requirements in the way of mandatory training required by the Department of Education.
