We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we walk, live and learn, the Bullongin & Kombumerri people. We pay our deepest respects to Elders resting in the Dreamtime and to the Elders of today, who will continue to care, protect and nurture the Country that we gather on to learn and connect. We feel both privileged, and grateful to now be sharing and caring for the country on which we are living and learning.
Events, dates and times may change. Please check the school calendar regularly to keep updated.

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Thank you an excellent school week. Our classrooms continue to do some incredible work with our children and I am delighted with how well the school year has commenced. We are already 10% through the year!

We will be having a free dress day next Friday to recognise Rare Disease Day. The theme is stripes (zebra stripes) but students can also come in any free dress if stripes are not in their wardrobes. Additional colour suggestions include pink, green and blue. There is no gold coin donation but if you would like to donate directly to the cause or just find out more information, CLICK HERE.
Fun & games in Year 3
It was a great afternoon in Year 3 today when our families were invited in for a games afternoon. It was satisfying to see the looks on the students' faces as they spent time in their classrooms with their families. Well done to our teachers for organising this event.

Oval seating project
Work has finally started. It has taken so long but I know that the end results will be worth it. You will see the safety fences up along the oval. These will remain in place until everything is complete. This is very exciting - thank you to our incredible P&C Association.

Around the rooms this week
As your know, our school has honed in on learning in English and learning behaviours this year. This past week I have been speaking with students in their classrooms about the incredible work they are doing with their teachers. Nothing satisfies me more than listening to the students talk about their learning and just how much they love their teachers.

School Council
Our school has a P&C AND a School Council. The P&C is open to all members of the school community and deals with supporting the school and students. The School Council is involved in establishing and monitoring the strategic plans of the school and meets once each term.
Membership of a School Council is different to a P&C. There are:
- 2 official members - Principal and P&C President,
- 2 elected members from staff
- 2 elected members from the parent body
Of the two parent positions currently on the School Council, one of those positions is up for re-election this year. If you are interested in nominating or know someone who may like to be nominated, please refer to the following information.
Nominations Open:
- Friday 14 February 2025.
- Nomination forms are available from Corporate Services between 8:00am and 3.00pm or by emailing the returning officer - Leonie Jenkins
Nominations Close:
- Friday 28 February 2025.
- Nominations must be received by the returning officer, via Corporate Services, before the deadline. These can be emailed to returning officer or delivered to Corporate Service between 8:00am and 3.00pm school days.
Election Date:
- Tuesday, 18 March 2025
Election Time:
- Polling booth is open from 8:00am - 9.30am and 12:00pm - 2.00pm on Tuesday 18 March.
Election Venue:
- Coomera Rivers Corporate Services Interview Room.
We look forward to your nomination.
Year 6 senior shirts
We will be distributing the Year 6 Senior shirt next week to those students who ordered one late last year. Another ordering opportunity will open shortly. Please remember the conditions of purchase.
eScooters at school
My concern for electric scooters increased again this afternoon when I learned of a rider fatality in Nerang. While the rider was not a child, it still highlighted to me the potential dangers of these personal mobility devices.
In Queensland, eScooters are considered to be a personal mobility device. In other words, they are considered as a type of vehicle, so users must comply with the rules for personal mobility devices and the general road rules. Click here to visit the Queensland Transport site.
To ride an e-scooter, the rider must be either:
- at least 16 years or
- at least 12 years and supervised by an adult while riding the device.
Children under 12 years of age must not ride personal mobility devices. This means that students at our school cannot ride e-scooters to and from school.
Carrying people
I was also surprised to learn that a personal mobility device is designed for use by one person only. You must not carry another person when riding a personal mobility device—not even a child. Please model this requirement when at the school.
Have a lovely weekend
Vic
Congratulations to these amazing students on their super efforts this week.

Celebration of Learning
Year 3 Science
This term, Year 3 are exploring the fascinating world of rocks, soil, and minerals in Science! So far, we have been learning about the different types of rocks and how they are formed. This week, we became geologists—using magnifying glasses to carefully examine various rocks and classify them based on their features. It was an exciting and hands-on experience, sparking curiosity and wonder about the natural world. We can’t wait to continue our rocky journey!

Year 4
Year 4 students are reading Birrung the Secret Friend by Jackie French, a historical fiction novel set in early colonial Australia. The story follows Barney Bean, a young convict, who forms a secret friendship with Birrung, a young Indigenous girl. Through their bond, the novel explores themes of empathy, resilience, and cultural understanding. The class engages deeply with the novel, discussing how the characters overcame their isolation and differences. The novel provides opportunities to explore the challenges faced by Indigenous Australians and convicts during the colonial era, enhancing students’ historical understanding.
Weekly activities around this class novel include summarising historical facts about Australia, identifying the main idea from each chapter, vocabulary and diary recount writing. Students are participating in lessons where they use the main ideas from each chapter and turn them into a diary recount, taking on the character of Barney Bean. This week’s chapter was about Barney Bean experiencing and celebrating his first Christmas with the Johnson family.
Birrung the Secret Friend not only enriches the students' literary and historical knowledge but also fosters important lessons in empathy and cultural respect.

Year 5
This week, our Year 5 class celebrated International Mother Language Day! We had a fantastic time learning about the different languages spoken in our classroom, including Chinese, Hindi, Māori, German, and Indonesian.
Students shared words and phrases from their mother languages, taught each other how to say greetings, and even wrote their names in different scripts. We also learned why it’s important to keep our home languages alive and how they connect us to our cultures and families.
It was a wonderful reminder that our classroom is full of rich languages and traditions. We loved celebrating what makes us unique while learning from one another!
Year 6
