We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we walk, live and learn, the Bullongin & Kombumerri people. We pay our deepest respects to Elders resting in the Dreamtime and to the Elders of today, who will continue to care, protect and nurture the Country that we gather on to learn and connect. We feel both privileged, and grateful to now be sharing and caring for the country on which we are living and learning.
Events, dates and times may change. Please check the school calendar regularly to keep updated.

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
The school grounds may be saturated from the constant rain, but that has not stopped us forging ahead with our activities at school. The inclement weather saw the cancellation of interschool sport this week and we also needed to close the oval and some of the field areas around the school. We will need a few sunny days to dry out before we can get back on our fields.
Oval seating project (Stage 1)
The oval project is coming along despite the weather conditions. I was lucky enough to do an inspection today (in my gumboots) and was very happy with how it is looking. I am sure that everyone will be just as impressed as I was.
Stage 2 includes a Ninja Warrior course for senior students. This will begin in the coming months as the wet weather has really caused some delays.

Pacifikai - Good Start
Thank you to Ms Findlay for organising the Pasifikai Good Start program for our Year 5 & 6 students. It is awesome to see them experiencing their culture at Coomera Rivers.

Kokoda challenge
Kokoda training last Saturday morning started in the dark. We were at the Nerang State Forest and spent our session on the hills. I am very impressed with the improvements in our fitness levels. Before school training sessions are also impressive. We will be cherry ripe for the Schools Kokoda Challenge on June 7 in Brisbane.

Under 8s Day
Thank you to everyone who supported our Under 8s Day today. The feeling in the junior precinct was amazing. I am very grateful to our amazing staff for their organisation of today.

myConnections in Year 3
myConnections is the name of our social-emotional development program at school. Our teachers, led by Mrs Gatti, Mrs Young and Mrs Crook, develop interesting lessons each day for our students to enjoy. Below is an example of a Year 3 program.

Better than 'How was your day?'
Thanks to Ms Halpin for sharing this with me. These are great questions to ask your children. Try some of these.
Chantelle and Alfred
Thank you to Chantelle (5Y) for sharing her writing with me today. Her text was about the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Alfred when it landed on the Gold Coast earlier this year. Her vocabulary selection was excellent. It was a fantastic way to close the day.
Staff are learners too
Congratulations to Laura Broy who recently attended an award ceremony on completion of the Flagship Teacher Aide program. Laura has spent around 12 months honing her knowledge and confidence in the provision of evidence-based effective education support contributing to student success. Congratulations to her.
Kind regards
Vic

Interschool Sport
The weather has unfortunately delayed the start to our Interschool Sport season.

- Day 1: Wednesday 21 May
- Day 2: Tuesday 27 May
- Day 3: Tuesday 3 June
2025 Premier Reading Challenge
6 May - 22 August

This year, our school has entered in the Premiers Reading Challenge. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an annual state-wide initiative for state and non-state schools’ students. The challenge is not a competition however it aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure and learning. For a student to successfully complete the challenge they must read or experience the allocated number of books for their year level during the reading period. Students who complete the challenge have their efforts recognised by receiving a Certificate of Achievement.
On the 6th of May your child received their ‘School Reader Record Form’ to take home to begin entering their read books. Once completed, sign and hand into the i-Centre.
At the end of the challenge, all students who completed their log will receive a certificate. If your child would like to read more, and needs another record form, let Katie in the i-centre know.
To successfully complete the PRC, students must read or experience the specified number of books indicated in the table below in English or additional languages.

If you have any questions regarding this challenge, please email Louise Landers.
Happy Reading!
Year 3 Are Thinking Like Scientists!
This term, Year 3 have been having lots of fun learning about the fascinating world of living things. We've been exploring what makes something living, non-living, or once living, and have loved sharing our ideas and asking questions about the world around us.
As part of our learning, we've also been investigating how scientists classify different things. We've had a go at sorting and grouping objects based on their features, just like real scientists do! It’s been exciting to think scientifically and look more closely at the details that help us tell things apart.
Next, we’ll be diving deeper into the animal kingdom to learn how animals are classified, and we can’t wait to discover all the amazing ways animals are grouped based on their characteristics.
Year 3 are well on their way to becoming expert classifiers!

Year 4
This week in Year 4, we've been diving into the fascinating world of the water cycle. We've explored how this essential natural process works and why it's so important to care for our planet by using water wisely.
To bring our learning to life, we conducted an exciting experiment that demonstrated each stage of the water cycle in action. Together students have created a vibrant poster explaining the water cycle, which is now proudly displayed in our classroom. In addition, we've been designing eye-catching "Water Wise" posters to help educate others on how they can conserve this precious resource for generations to come.

Year 5
This week, 5E have been working hard on planning and writing information texts about Cyclone Alfred. We’ve been learning how to structure information reports, use technical vocabulary, and include key details about this extreme weather event. The students have done a fantastic job researching and presenting their information clearly and accurately.
Year 6
This week, 6P looked at recognising, acknowledging, and writing about a range of feelings that they may experience on a day-to-day basis. Specifically, they focused on 1 positive emotion, and 1 negative emotion. They learnt how to write about these feelings through the creation of their own Haiku’s! We’re so proud of our little poets!
