We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we walk, live and learn, the Bullongin & Kombumerri people. We pay our deepest respects to Elders resting in the Dreamtime and to the Elders of today, who will continue to care, protect and nurture the Country that we gather on to learn and connect. We feel both privileged, and grateful to now be sharing and caring for the country on which we are living and learning.

2025 Premier Reading Challenge
6 May - 22 August

This year, our school has entered in the Premiers Reading Challenge. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an annual state-wide initiative for state and non-state schools’ students. The challenge is not a competition however it aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure and learning. For a student to successfully complete the challenge they must read or experience the allocated number of books for their year level during the reading period. Students who complete the challenge have their efforts recognised by receiving a Certificate of Achievement.
On the 6th of May your child received their ‘School Reader Record Form’ to take home to begin entering their read books. Once completed, sign and hand into the i-Centre.
At the end of the challenge, all students who completed their log will receive a certificate. If your child would like to read more, and needs another record form, let Katie in the i-centre know.
To successfully complete the PRC, students must read or experience the specified number of books indicated in the table below in English or additional languages.

If you have any questions regarding this challenge, please email Louise Landers.
Happy Reading!
Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Winter is here - well according to the calendar anyway. The wet weather today (and Saturday) has cooled things down quite a bit. Please make sure that your children have the correct jumper and tracksuit top for when the temperature drops.
Every week is busy at school so it is important that children attend school on time every day.
Faces from the Prep excursion
Our Prep students headed off on their first school excursion this week, when they visited Sea World. Being an avid scuba diver, I love all things 'under the sea' and Sea World is a fantastic place to learn about these creatures. Despite the rain, the students had a great day and managed the wet weather really well.
The sharks are always my favourite creature but for the Preppies, the dolphin show was definitely the highlight with lots of excited faces and wide eyes. Thank you to the volunteers and staff for planning and leading the excursion.

Year 2 learners travel back in time
Year 2 went on excursion to the Beenleigh Historical Village where they saw how people lived in 'the olden days'. The lifestyle differences are stark and the sitting in class at the school house was a highlight. This was the 2nd building from Loganholme State School and it dates back to the late 1800s. The original school house was unfortunately destroyed by fire a few years before this one was constructed. I was Principal of Loganholme from 2007-2010 so this building holds a special appeal for me. Thank you to our wonderful teachers and staff for making this experience so meaningful.

Oval seating project nears completion
The weather has held things up a lot but the area is nearly finished. This is Stage 1. The second stage, the Year 5&6 Ninja Warrior course is being organised. Students will be involved in the process next week. It will take a couple of months yet for the playground parts to be made and we are all excited to watch it being constructed.
Member for Coomera, Michael Crandon visited the school on Wednesday to view the work. He supported our P&C by funding the project through government finances. We are all very grateful to him. This is a wonderful contribution to our school.

Kokoda challenge is one week away
Last week we trained at the Nerang State Forest again. This was the day we pushed hard to go as far as we could in the time available. I was very pleased that we managed to easily travel between 8-10km in the 90 minutes - especially given the tough hills.
Next Saturday we compete in Brisbane at the Kokoda Schools Challenge where we take on the brutal 18km course. We are fit and ready to go.

Special visitors are coming
In Week 8, we will host three visitors to our school. They are undertaking a review for our school and will be speaking with staff, families and students to gauge their opinion about how the school is progressing. We are looking forward to learning about their observations and recommendations for further improvement.
Kind regards
Vic
This week, we acknowledge the remarkable efforts of these amazing students who have shown dedication, perseverance, and a strong commitment to their learning. Congratulations to all on a fantastic week of learning!

Celebrations of Learning
Informative Writing
Across the school students have been practising their Informative Writing! Come in to the I-centre to check out some of our WOW work from across the school!
Year 3
This week, Year 3 students enhanced their multiplicative skills through a hands-on exploration of arrays. During the active-learning, students used a variety of manipulatives to engage in differentiated activities. This supported students' conceptual understanding, using rows and columns to visually represent one and two-digit numbers, while forming number sentences to build mathematical fluency. Students also developed their collaboration and communication skills through this peer-learning opportunity. Well done students!
Year 4
In Science, we have been learning about the water cycle through engaging activities like dance and text analysis. They've also investigated the impact of pollution on our waterways and explored practical solutions they can implement, such as recycling. In Math, the focus has been on time, specifically estimation and duration. To make learning fun and meaningful, students played a silent ball game while tracking and comparing the actual game duration to their estimates. It’s been a week full of curiosity, creativity, and hands on learning.
Year 5
5L Buddy Activities Highlight Our Week
Every Thursday afternoon 5L students demonstrate their leadership skills by interacting with 1A. The children have enjoyed being read to, art and craft activities, outdoor games including skipping and sing-alongs. The smile on children’s faces say how much they appreciate each other’s company.

Year 6
This term in Science, Year 6 students have been exploring the planets of our solar system. They have researched detailed facts about each planet and recorded this information in their planet books. This process has helped them compare the characteristics of different planets. Additionally, students have studied planetary orbits during their English structured literacy lessons. Overall, the students have greatly enjoyed learning about these fascinating topics.

Students across the school have been doing activities to recognise Reconciliation Week. 6T students created some indigenous art work as an activity.
Growing good health habits
Today, our Pasifika students were thrilled to check in on the seeds they planted during our recent health initiative—and were amazed to discover they had grown into vibrant wheatgrass! Students learned that this superfood would be used to make a healthy juice, and were eager to try it.
They also got hands-on with juicing mango, pineapple, and limes, sampling the refreshing results. It was a joyful and engaging session, filled with surprise, taste-testing, and valuable conversations about staying healthy.
It’s always wonderful to see our Pasifika students connecting, learning together, and taking pride in their health journey.
Congratulations to Mila from 6T for receiving the first award for the Pacifikai Program showing respect, kindness and participation in these sessions.

Halfway Through Term 2 – What a Wonderful Journey at OSHC!
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through Term 2! Time really does fly when you’re having fun, and at OSHC, the past few weeks have been filled with creativity, learning, and laughter.
The children have been thriving as they participate in a variety of enriching activities. From arts and crafts sessions that spark their imagination to outdoor games that build teamwork and confidence, every day has been an opportunity to grow, play, and connect.
STEM activities have also been a hit, with exciting experiments and construction challenges that encourage curiosity and problem-solving skills.
Friendships are blossoming, and it’s been heartwarming to see the older children mentoring the younger ones, creating a supportive and inclusive environment. Whether it’s through group games, reading corners, or collaborative projects, the sense of community at OSHC continues to shine brightly.
We’re so proud of the positive energy and enthusiasm the children bring with them each day. With so much already accomplished, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term has in store!
