Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Year 3 enjoyed their excursion to Ngutana-Lui last week where they were immersed in the richness and diversity of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Be prepared for 2022
2022 is closing in quickly so it is time to begin preparations.
Your 2022 plans
If you looking to relocate in 2022 and your children will not be returning to Coomera Rivers, please let our office staff know. This really assists us in creating our 2022 class structures.
Book lists for 2022
The book lists for next year are now ready. We no longer have a school sourced supplier. This decision was made at the P&C following considerable consultation and discussion. Instead, families can:
- Print the list
- Identify the items they need and what they already have from this year, then
- Head off to the back to school sales.

Alex wins the bike raffle
We raffled a bike at school. Students were given tickets by teachers for displaying the school rules of:
- Be safe
- Be respectful
- Be a learner.
And the lucky winner was Alex from 2H. He chose this bike as his prize.
Thank you sincerely to our P&C and Vuly for providing this prize (valued at $500).
Our plans for the next four years
We are here for learning and are very particular to provide a holistic approach to developing each child as a citizen of today. We strive for our children to be Good at learning - Good at life.
The following six areas are directly in our focus across the next four years. These areas have been developed with the school council and our P&C Association.
We will be:
- Embedding Deep Learning as our school-wide pedagogical approach to learning
- Building an expert teaching team
- Creating success for every student with a disability
- Systematically delivering of the Australian Curriculum
- Using the right data to demonstrate success
- Developing and maintaining quality partnerships within our community
If you would like to add input to these areas, please email me.
Kind regards

Coomera Rivers HASS Global Innovators
This week saw all Year 6 classes complete the entrepreneurial Global Innovators HASS Program designing solution for the Global Goals. Empathising with our global community, students identified a need for change in a wide variety of issues including gender inequalities, life below water, life on land, responsible consumption and production, climate action & affordable and clean energy to name a few. Students are now busy creating prototypes, building trade show displays and practising their shark tank style pitches.
In a few weeks, we will welcome business and enterprise teachers from our local high schools and a design lecturer from Coomera TAFE to be on our shark tank panel of experts. The engagement, self-directed management of these tasks and passion for being change makers are impressive when students commit to this program.

Regional Global Innovators
Also this week, Coomera Rivers hosted the Regional Global Innovators Program for the second day of this program; the Trade Show & Pitch Event. Four schools and 36 students showcased their design solutions for Global Goals and passionately shared their ideas with their audience of students, teachers and special guests.
Persuasively pitching their business proposals and design solutions to a shark tank style panel and receiving feedback on their ideas was a highlight of the day. If these creative and passionate young people are our future decision makers, we are in good hands. They are most certainly good at learning, good at life.

Writing to Ronaldo
Congratulations to Charlie who wrote this week to Manchester United to tell them of his favourite player - Ronaldo. And they wrote back!

School museum
'My day was extraordinary! 3/4WH opened a museum and teachers, students and parents from all over came to see. I got to see guinea pigs, grasshoppers, crystals, birds, bones and all kinds of interesting items. You should've been there it was awesome! We learnt so much about life cycles, living, non-living and once living things. My favourite was the bones it was really fun trying to guess what animals they belonged too.' ~ Jaeda

Touch football competition
Last Friday, Coomera Rivers had a Girls team and Boys team enter the Ormeau Woods Touch Competition. It was a really enjoyable day and it was well-run. It was great preparation for the All Schools Touch weekend which begins tomorrow.
Unfortunately, the girls didn't progress through to finals, but the boys managed to go undefeated through the group stages, won their semi against Coomera Springs and only just lost the Grand Final (10-8) against Arundel.
Really well done to both teams.

Music and Muffins concert is back!
It was such a hit we’re doing it again!! Our end of year showcase is going to be showcased on Facebook Live from 6:00pm, 17 November 2021. Students in the instrumental music program received an information note about this concert earlier in the week. If you haven’t received yours, please email Cassi Zander for a copy.
Coolphase for Clean Seas - Can you help?
We need your can and plastic bottles
Did you know that we collect cans and bottles to recycle? Please bring in any aluminium cans or plastic bottles from home. We will cash them in. We have raised enough money for our first project - a bee hive. We have purchased the hive and expect it to be installed in the coming weeks.
Please bring your lunch to school on Wednesdays in reusable containers instead of plastic wrappers.
Our very best classes
Week 4 - 4F (17 lunches)
Week 5 - 4B (11 lunches)
Week 6 - 3JN (13 lunches)
Week 7 - 5L (14 lunches)
Over the last two weeks we have updating our question corner, making it more children friendly and accessible. The children had previously been enjoying writing on the whiteboards during after school care, ideas for the program or things that they had been enjoying at OSHC. From this observation, we thought we could use this as a way to get our children’s input into the program, menu and routines, making them feel like their voices are being heard and recognised.
Pearl and Taylor were the first to notice the updated question corner, reading through the prompt questions and eagerly asking for some whiteboard markers to use. After throwing some ideas back and forth, Pearl and Taylor came up with some excellent afternoon tea ideas as well as some suggestions for our program. This was such an effective way to gather children’s input, and it was safe to say that the two enjoyed having the opportunity to share their ideas.

We are looking for local businesses
Our P&C are conducting a series of raffles to recognise the wonderful work of our volunteers. This raffle is called Community Stars. The prizes will be vouchers to spend at a local business. This means the P&C need 5 local businesses from which to purchase gift vouchers that will be used as part of the Community Stars program.
We are asking families, who own or work for a business within the Gold Coast City Council Division 3 area, to consider being involved and email the P&C with their business name.
We will then conduct a draw of which businesses are included in each round of the volunteer raffle. These 5 selected businesses, in addition to the P&C purchasing vouchers, will also receive free advertising in the school newsletter and on Facebook the week that their vouchers are used as part of our Community Stars program.
If, as a business, you miss out on being selected in this first round, never fear, we will be looking for more local businesses later this Term.
Are you looking for that accessory to support your team at our upcoming Swimming Fun Days (Years 3 - 6)? Well, we have the answer!
