Dear mums, dads and carers
Dress up day today was another huge success. Every year I marvel at the creativity and ingenuity of our families when it comes to the design of costumes. This year was even better than those previous. Congratulations! I was very impressed.

Our Book Fair is under way with many families investing in literature for their children. The sales finish on Wednesday so make sure that you do not miss out on this opportunity.

FRIDAY 25 WILL BE A MASSIVE DAY
Day for Daniel
Come to school wearing RED on Friday 25 October. It is a free dress day with no fundraising attached. Click HERE if you would like to make a personal donation to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
Friday 25 October
Teaching children about personal safety
On Thursday and Friday of next week, classrooms will be focused on teaching personal safety and identifying body clues that indicate feelings of being unsafe. Students will also work to recognise their safe people from whom they can seek help. And in additon to this, Years 3–6 will also cover online safety.
Please see below for an overview of lessons:
Prep – Year 2
• Emotional Responses
• Body Clues
• Safety Helpers
Years 3-4
• Body Clues
• Safety Helpers
• Information that is safe and unsafe to share online
• How to recognise, react and report unsafe behaviours online
Years 5-6
Senior students will engage with a resource created by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation called the ‘That’s Suss – eSafety Challenge.’ The link to this resource is here should you wish to explore it at home.
IMPORTANT NOTE 1: There are three separate characters to follow in the challenge. We will only be exploring the story of ‘Millsy’. This resource involves a child chatting to a stranger as part of an online game. The child recognises that their body clues are indicating that they feel uncomfortable and seeks help from an older family member. The stranger is then reported online to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.
IMPORTANT NOTE 2: Please note that a real image of this website is included in this resource and the word Sextortion is displayed on the screen for a moment. Students will not be explicitly taught about this kind of predatory behaviour, but they will be advised to never share images online (explicit or otherwise). I strongly recommend that families discuss this with their children as well.
PARENT GUIDE: Please click here for a copy of the parent guide.
YOU CAN OPT OUT for your child
We understand that the nature of this content may be triggering to some students. If you would not like your child to participate in these lessons, please email your child’s teacher by Wednesday.

Staff Appreciation Day
Friday 25 October
Principal's breakfast
Friday 25 October
We invite all students to the Principal's sausage sizzle breakfast on Friday morning (25 October). The sausage sizzle is free and is a great way to start the day and acknowledge the importance of both Day for Daniel and Staff Appreciation Day.
Sausages (in bread with choice of sauce) will be served from 7:45am until they are gone.
Please note that this should not be considered your child's breakfast for the day - just in case you arrive at school and the stocks are already finished.
We will also have vegetarian and halal options available.
Back gate re-opens
With the removal of the modular buildings in the school now completed, we can re-open the back gate for school access. Please check the opening times.

Celebrations of Learning
Prep
This week in Prep D and S, we have been reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. After identifying the parts of the story that we liked and didn’t like, we also wrote about something that Goldilocks might be sorry for if she were to write an apology letter. We also have some very sweet directed drawings in our classrooms on display.
While we continue to improve and extending our number knowledge, we have been focusing on sharing. This is the initial understanding that will lead us into division as we grow. We have completed many and on activities that involved equal sharing with friends and why our sharing always needs to be equal.
Book week was also a highlight of our week. We saw race cars, witches, wizards, Little Red Riding Hoods, unicorns, princesses and more. Thank you for supporting this fun filled day and making it a brilliant day for all!

Year 1
This week 1V worked with a partner to make Fairy Bread, following all the steps of a procedural text (recipe). It involved skills like spreading the butter and cutting the bread in half with a wooden knife (tricky). After the Fairy Bread was eaten for morning tea they had to write down all the steps required to make Fairy Bread. They all did an amazing job! They are now looking forward to the next cooking experience.

Year 2
It’s been a busy start to the term in 2B. Last week we had some visitors from another school who came to check out The Resilience Project. We wrote them a persuasive letter to tell them our opinion about TRP and reasons why they should implement it in their school. This week in The Resilience Project we created a Compliments Tree with kind messages to our classmates. We also reflected on how giving and receiving kind words give us positive emotions. We’ve continued our work on persuasive writing this week with students writing their own letters this time, linked to the story ‘The Day the Crayons Quit.’ Parents better watch out because their persuasive skills were incredible. Savannah’s awesome writing made it onto our Bump It Up wall, and we all learned lots about how to improve our own writing by reading hers.
Our book fair continues this coming week in the iCentre. It will be open from 7:30am until 3pm - closing Wednesday. Well done to all the students and staff who came to school Friday in some fabulous costumes. As always it was tough picking winners.

Environmental Warrior - Eco Marines Breakfast
On Tuesday the 14th of October, our Environmental Leaders attended the annual Gold Coast City Councils Tangalooma Eco-Marines Breakfast. At this event, we joined all the other representatives from the EcoMarine Gold Coast schools and celebrated our achievements for the year. Donna Gates, Deputy Mayor, also attended and gave a keynote speech about all the important work that the Eco-Marines do and the latest Gold Coast environmental initiatives currently in progress. The students also engaged in a quiz about Fossil Fuels and Bailey won a prize! Not only did they receive a yummy buffet breakfast, but they were also gifted some seeds to grow at home or school. We’ve had a wonderful year partnering with the Tangalooma Eco-Marines and look forward to 2025, continuing the amazing work our students have begun.
Instrumental Music Recruitment for 2025

2025 Year 6 senior shirt opportunity
It is with great excitement that we open the orders for our 2025 seniors shirts.
Our Year 5 students have recently been involved in a design development process that culminated in four designs being presented to the cohort. Every Year 5 student was then able to vote on their favourite with the design with the most votes becoming our 2025 senior shirt design.
We are really excited to release an image of the winning design below.
Orders are open now so as to give families as much time as possible to check their sizes (you will read below why this is REALLY important) and place their order.
Important information - What you need to know.
- Orders are open to our current Year 5 (Class of 2025) students only
- Orders are open now via School24 and will close at 4:00pm Friday 15 November
- The cost of the shirt is $35
REALLY IMPORTANT INFO:
- When determining sizing, please refer to the size charts available below (and on the School24 site) or you can email the P&C to book a time to try on sample sizes. Please ensure that you check and order the correct sizes as there is no exchange of sizes available once your order has been placed.
- Families that would like to purchase but, for any reason, are not able to make full payment before the deadline date, can email the P&C to request a payment plan. Please note - to be eligible for a payment plan your school credit rating must be in good standing - meaning you have no outstanding payments to school or, if you currently are on a school payment plan, your payments are up to date.
- The school requires that a minimum of 100 student orders are received for the senior shirt to proceed. If orders do not reach this target, we will process refunds and not proceed with the order for 2025.
- The 2025 Senior shirt can be worn on sports days at school.
Students will still need to have a standard "green" shirt as these must be worn when representing our school off site requires full sport uniform. - 2025 Senior Shirts will be handed out in Term 1 Week 4 of 2025 after confirmation that students have the full correct "blues" and "greens" uniform - including black formal shoes and black sport shoes.
