Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
It's still spring but this week it felt very much like summer. The heat arrived in force and continued all week. These conditions are significant. Heat waves are the deadliest natural hazard we face and are responsible for over 100 deaths each year - so we take these situations very seriously.
We have managed well at school this week with the air-conditioning in classrooms keeping things comfortable and cool. Plenty to drinks and hats on have kept things safer for everyone. Should things become hotter, we are ready to minimise time outdoors. Schools do not close because of excessive heat. Click here to learn more about how to stay safe in a heat wave.
Early arrivals at school are concerning
School gates open at 7:45am each day for many of our before school activities. Students should never arrive before this time unless they are attending OSHC. We have seen students arriving before 7:00am some mornings. This is unsafe and we will contact families should this happen.
We provide supervision from 8:00am, provided that children are in the correct areas. The best time to arrive at school is between 8:15am - 8:25am so that class and lessons can begin at 8:30am.
State level success
Congratulations to our Coomera Rivers students who participated in Queensland Primary All Schools touch football competition last weekend. There were 291 team teams competing over the three day tournament.
Well done to the boys team who finished Top 8, and the Girls who won the tournament. These were huge achievements. Thank you to all parents and friends who supported our players and to Mr Liam, Ms Landers and Mr Burrows for leading and coaching. Top job!

Celebrations of Learning
Year 3
This term in Science, Year 3 students have been exploring the fascinating topic of states of matter! We've been learning all about solids and liquids and how they can change from one state to another by adding or removing heat. Through hands-on experiments, students have had the chance to observe liquids freezing into solids and solids melting into liquids, gaining a deeper understanding of how heat affects different materials. It’s been an exciting and interactive way to connect scientific concepts with real-world observations!

Year 4
This term, our Year 4 classes have embarked on an exciting journey through the pages of "Rowan of Rin," a captivating novel by Emily Rodda. This novel study has not only engaged our students in a thrilling adventure but has also provided ample opportunities for shared reading, vocabulary building, and comprehension activities.
During our teacher-led reading sessions, students gather to explore the text together. As we delve into Rowan's story, we discuss the characters, setting, and plot. The vivid descriptions of Rin and its mystical surroundings spark the children's imaginations and encourage them to visualize the scenes. These discussions help foster a deeper understanding of the narrative while building a sense of community within the classroom.
To enrich our students' language skills, we’ve been focusing on key vocabulary from the text. Each week, we identify challenging words and phrases, exploring their meanings and usage which have prompted discussions about their significance in the story and how they relate to the themes of bravery and adventure. Students are encouraged to use these new words in their writing and speaking, enhancing their overall language proficiency.
To deepen comprehension, we engage in various activities designed to check understanding and encourage critical thinking. After each chapter, students participate in group discussions, where they share their thoughts and predictions about the story. We also incorporate creative projects, such as character maps and storyboards, allowing students to express their interpretations visually.
Additionally, comprehension questions help guide their reading, focusing on main ideas, characters, events and problems from each chapter. These activities not only reinforce what they have read but also develop their analytical skills, preparing them for more complex texts in the future. A special mention to Yegana, Leon, Makaea, Skyla, Chantelle and Eren from 4F who this week received all Tickled Pink feedback for their independent comprehension responses. Well done!
As we continue our exploration of "Rowan of Rin," we are excited to see how the story unfolds. The themes of friendship, bravery, and self-discovery resonate deeply with our students, inspiring them to reflect on their own experiences and values.
We encourage you to join in the adventure at home! Ask your child about their favourite parts of the story and what they think might happen next. Sharing these conversations will not only strengthen their understanding but also foster a love of reading that lasts a lifetime.
Thank you for your continued support in our learning journey!

Year 5 - Resilience Project
This week, students in Year 5 had an opportunity to engage in a Resilience Project activity outside the classroom and think about what they are grateful for.
We encourage you to ask your child about things they are grateful for.

Year 6 Digi - Sustainable Restaurants
Year 6 students have been learning about sustainability in restaurants, and the ideas that they think may be possible.
Some students have already had an opportunity to make their restaurant come alive through Virtual Reality, using an Oculus headset, interacting with their design in Cospaces.
We encourage you to ask your child to show you their sustainable restaurant in Cospaces.

Our school has sought funding to operate a breakfast club each morning. Items on our menu will be available to any student who wishes to take them for breakfast, snack break, morning tea, or lunch.
We encourage students to help themselves to items.
IMPORTANT: If your child has allergies they will need to be aware of what they can and cannot take from the snack trolley. I require parents to monitor this as the school is not able to match foods to particular student health needs. The school will provide the menu of available items for the following week so please discuss these with your child.
Well done to all students who packed a Waste Free Lunch Box every week for Waste Free Wednesday this term. The winner of our major prize - a sustainable lunch box pack - is Olivia from 3J. Congratulations Olivia!

2025 Year 6 senior shirt opportunity
It is with great excitement that we open the orders for our 2025 seniors shirts.
Our Year 5 students have recently been involved in a design development process that culminated in four designs being presented to the cohort. Every Year 5 student was then able to vote on their favourite with the design with the most votes becoming our 2025 senior shirt design.
We are really excited to release an image of the winning design below.
Orders are open now so as to give families as much time as possible to check their sizes (you will read below why this is REALLY important) and place their order.
Important information - What you need to know.
- Orders are open to our current Year 5 (Class of 2025) students only
- Orders are open now via School24 and will close at 4:00pm Friday 15 November
- The cost of the shirt is $35
REALLY IMPORTANT INFO:
- When determining sizing, please refer to the size charts available below (and on the School24 site) or you can email the P&C to book a time to try on sample sizes. Please ensure that you check and order the correct sizes as there is no exchange of sizes available once your order has been placed.
- Families that would like to purchase but, for any reason, are not able to make full payment before the deadline date, can email the P&C to request a payment plan. Please note - to be eligible for a payment plan your school credit rating must be in good standing - meaning you have no outstanding payments to school or, if you currently are on a school payment plan, your payments are up to date.
- The school requires that a minimum of 100 student orders are received for the senior shirt to proceed. If orders do not reach this target, we will process refunds and not proceed with the order for 2025.
- The 2025 Senior shirt can be worn on sports days at school.
Students will still need to have a standard "green" shirt as these must be worn when representing our school off site requires full sport uniform. - 2025 Senior Shirts will be handed out in Term 1 Week 4 of 2025 after confirmation that students have the full correct "blues" and "greens" uniform - including black formal shoes and black sport shoes.
